I would say Utah is now in the clear. Hopefully most of the state faired pretty well. How are the other states looking? Sounds like Idaho is going to take a good sized hit. Wyoming sounded pretty doom and gloom, but I don't feel like it is going to be quite as bad as some led on. Colorado seems to have faired ok. Nevada, Zona should be in good shape. So as a whole things seem to be ok, higher then normal in many area's, but nothing catastrophic... I hope

Guess you know something about Wyoming that we who live here don't?

Dont mind jm77. God dealt him a tough card in life. If it snows 6" its a struggle for him to get his short stubby legs through it.

Actually I personally don't know squat, just getting mixed reports. The better ones are from people I know. The bad ones are on sites like this. Don't get me wrong there is definitely going to be some above average winter kill. I'm just not entirely convinced that it's as bad as some seem to think. Guess we will see.

Western Idaho got hit pretty hard , the county is live in got 5' of snow in January, along with a few weeks of sub zero temperatures. The snow is melting now, but the bodies are piling up .

In the fields that I used to see 100's of deer and a few bucks daily , I now see a handful of does .

I know that the kill isn't the end of the world , but it's definitely severe .

I don't know what we'll end up with. We had a lot of snow and cold. Driving from Star Valley to Rock Springs today, I saw a lot more elk than deer, but the deer I saw looked a lot better than I expected. A lot of the southern exposures are melted off. We should have some rain and mild temps this week that would melt a lot of snow. The ones that did make it might do well enough. I did see a number of last year's fawns. I think we will find a significant winter kill. As someone who lives in G, I anticipate one can still have a good hunt, if one is willing.

I think all will be just fine too. Even in Wyoming.

The Green River basin got more snow this year than any year on record. Couple that with all the cold we had in Dec and Jan, there are going to be a lot of disappointed hunters in G and H this fall.

From what I hear it depends on which part of 102. Spoke to one guy who drives from rock springs to Manila each day (on the region K side of the lake) who says south of blacks fork seemed about normal and from blacks fork north got pounded, like others have said. Spoke to another guy who drove from Dutch John along the east side of the lake to ice fish quite a bit and he said there was a lot of Jan and Feb that had very little snow on the ground in the lower country. I spent some time in there Jan and Feb and seems like the farther south we got the less snow there was and all the deer we saw looked good. Almost like it pounded I-80 and north, so maybe 102 didn't get hit too hard.

Im not just referring to this post, but I wonder how many people are hoping that bad weather reports-mortality rates, etc is people interested or if it is hoping to curb peoples enthusiasm to putting in this year.....?
My guess is that there will be a few people that factor it in, but when waiting multiple years, they (people) are just flat inpatient.

In SE Wyoming we have had above normal snow for months. But from all I can see, the critters came through in good shape. We've had really bad winds this year and it is a mixed blessing. Blows the snow off the ridge tops and opens things up for feeding.

I thought maybe some of the antelope in Carbon County would be hit but G&F seems to think they are fine. The elk are bulletproof and the deer struggled a bit, but appear to be in decent shape for now.

There's enough soil moisture in most areas to get things started so we'll hope for another good, wet spring.

Hopefully what was lost isn't too significant. Just above my house here in Utah I have seen at least a couple dead fawns without even looking, so I'm guessing a good number of the fawns died here. The brush had been devoured too! I think it's in part because of an increased number of deer in the area compared to years past and the snow pushed them into small areas for 2 months.

Rock Springs had record snow. 4' since October. Pinedale had 123". We hit -40 in January and the cold stayed for the month. Upper Green River basin has twice the snow as normal. Early snows in October brought deer down from the high country for hunters to kill. Late season hunts killed many more older age class bucks than normal.

Yeah, we should be fine.
