Hey guys I made a little video of Beau Strattons monster buck! Thought a few of you guys might be interested. Sure gets me excited for this coming season!

Was this buck taken on private land?

LAST EDITED ON May-09-17 AT 07:57PM (MST)[p]I mainly hunt public land, so it gets my blood pumping when I hear of big deer coming off of public land. I think it is cool to see or hear about bucks that grow to be giants out where anyone can hunt them. Come on, you know why I asked.

When someone asked a question like that, it's mainly to try and devalue the buck and diminish the accomplishment of the hunter.
Fact is, several general season public land bucks like that are killed every year but most people will never hear about them. So why not just pretend or imagine that this or any other buck posted is one of those bucks. Just because I hunt with a 30-30, doesn't mean I need to know what type of rifle this guy is hunting with, just so I can relate to him better.

BTW, nice video and thanks for sharing.

I understand how it could seem that way. However, I was truly curious. That buck is awesome and I would proudly shoot it on private land any day. Apparently he mentioned it was on private in the video. I never heard him mention private once

That's cool. Good luck to you this year.

Awesome hunt, awesome story, and awesome accomplishment. Am I jealous? Hell yes. Do I wish I had access to private? Absolutely. Would I feel like a stud hunter every time I looked at that beast on my wall? Every time. But let's be honest, there are "general" season deer, and there are general season "private" land deer. Many private land hunts are as good or better than many limited entry hunts. That's not to take away from this guys accomplishment, way to go! I haven't harvested anything even close to that giant... well not yet??. Just saying there is no question a difference in the quality and challenges of the hunt, public vs private. Not being a dink. I don't think you should call a guy out for making that point either. Just is what it is.

Ummm....ok then. Whatever.

Why you being a weasel fault? I'm just calling a spade a spade. Some others were asking if it was private or public and other guys were jumping on their case. Not trying to degrade the hunt, just saying different type hunts. Chillax

LAST EDITED ON May-10-17 AT 02:10PM (MST)[p]That is a freaking toad of a buck, congrats. Seems like a very humble, and grateful hunter. I turned up a giant this last year, and have named him Sueno, due to thinking "maybe it was a dream I saw him in" because I have yet to turn him up more then twice. I was lucky to have someone with me, and we were able to watch him for quite a while. I hunted hard for him last year and spotted him once during the hunt, but put a slip on me. I hope to be able to share this hunters success and maybe run into him again. I highly doubt anyone else has seen the buck I am after due to the area I was in. Very remote, flat desert. We ran into him while coyote hunting.

That sounds like a dream situation, find a big old buck in a unlikely place that few people ever go. Good luck, I keep hoping I will luck into a scenario like that someday.

Public land is a challenge. Private land is pretty easy. I have done both. I love private land. I just cant afford any. It is a great buck though. When I hunted private land both times it was pretty lame compared to hunting bucks on horseback at 11000 ft and sneaking in at tree line with other dudes pushin the same basin.

Just a totaly different game. Womens basketball is cool to though.

That sure is painting a pretty broad stroke.
I know of a lot of private land that is very hard to hunt and you couldn't pay me enough to hunt it over good public land.

Pretty sad to see people try and diminish a deer because it was killed on private land, yet if it's killed on the Henry's or the strip it's awesome because that's public land, yet it's much easier for the average Joe to hunt some private land than acquire one of those tags.

Look, it is a good buck.

I hunted a CWMU years ago with my wife and daughter. We killed a buck for each of them in one day, saw over 30 bucks, and shot them 10 feet away from the polaris.

Then, took my wife up Lone Peak above Alpine UT. We hiked up to the granite. Then hunted the timberline, hunted with about 20 to 30 other hunters pushing deer, we had to guess where they would run, got her set up at 360 yards, told her to watch the big rock and a buck would step out, turned to get something, she pops a buck, better buck than on the CWMU, backpack the buck to camp, load up, head home miles and miles down the canyon on foot.

I get not all hunts are the same. Catching a catfish on Utah lake or catching a brooke trout 15 miles in the Uintahs are different. Both make people happy. One is not better than the other necessarily. But ask my wife wich hunt was harder, more memorable, and more of an accomplishment.

However, this young man has taken a nice buck. Fantastic! Great work. But, keep challenging yourself.

Some people don't believe animals of that size could live anywhere but private land! Haha coincidentally, most of these people also are roadhunters

There is a huge difference in a general season public hunt vs a private.
Example; my brother and i leased some ground in west box elder county. We would see 200 deer in a day with 30 or so bucks. My wife killed 11 out of 12 years on 3 and 4point bucks most of them opening morning. Just over the fence on public you would be lucky to see 20 and if there was a buck you would be lucky.
Nothing taking from a private buck but one shot on public is a different story.
Another example:
Last year my son in law drew a CWMU and passed up some great deer and missed a 190+ buck 20 yards off the road...main road...not a scared bone in his body Most would just stand there like a sheep staring blindly with no real reaction to a human with a gun. Great experiance and memorable. Just not the same

Since you came to the conclusion I'd say it is true, for you, in your mind....which makes it all the more ironic you try and call out someone else for thinking the same as you suppose.
