Scouting will provide you with this information, quit looking for handouts "especially lakes
>and ares that hold more"

Most people spend a crazy amount of time gathering this information for themselves. Good luck having someone just give you this information. The only hope you have is to call the biologist from the unit and see what they will divulge.

The Eagle Caps are NOT the place I'd focus my efforts to reliably find mature bucks... especially with the expectations of finding "more".... and I say this based on a typical year. After the winter kill we had, this year will be that much tougher.... Honestly, it truly surprises me how few deer are in that country to begin with... not to mention, the lack of older age class bucks. Sure, those mountains will produce a nice buck every now and then, but I have yet to meet anyone that is killing mature bucks out of there with any kind of consistency. If you're set on finding a good buck in the caps, then start looking now and prepare to be broke, sore, and bitterly disappointed with what you've found by the time the opener rolls around. I'm not trying to bea jerk or a downer, but a realist, as these have been my experiences.... (and I spend quite a bit of time scouting, and backpack several miles in for up to 2 weeks at a time during hunting season)
..... Also, you really need to reevaluate the way you seek out information. As you're seeing, the approach you took will only get you the middle finger. The specific, detailed information you're looking for only comes via you're own blood, sweat, and tears. (And many lonely nights on the mountain.) Good luck, you'll need it!

Not to rain on anybody but we harvest 150"+ bucks in the eagle caps every year. Biggest 192". ALL public land and we go into area's no one else seems to get into...well rarely do we see anyone else.

Say what you want, I don't stretch the truth or lie.

Sorry muleyman, didn't mean to offend. No need to convince me, I believe you. Now I can say that I do know of someone with consistent success in the Caps, and congrats. ( when I hear someone asking about mature bucks I have a bad habit of making the presumption that they are looking for 4 1/2 + year old bucks, 165-170"+ range) ... but in comparison to other states (I know that's not a fair comparison) with similar habitat, deer densities are VERY low in most of that country... and VERY few 4 1/2+ year old 160"+ bucks. Sure there are pockets that hold better numbers and/or better bucks, but there is even more off the beaten path, "Bucky" looking country that does not hold the numbers or age class. In regards to expectations when hunting the Eagle Caps, I would say be prepared to spend a few years scouting/hunting and a lot of boot leather before you see consistent results like muleyman. (My experience anyway).

no offense taken Bucknut...you're a good man! You're absolutely correct there isn't many big bucks around & Its not an easy task finding these bigger bucks that live nocturnal after they've been hunted over the years. I'm blessed to be able to spend many days in the woods throughout the year. I've walked right up on these bucks during the day and they won't move an inch if they know you don't see them. Not too long ago My spotter watched as I walked this steep nasty canyon only for me to walk 20yrds above a big boy! Dead batteries = oh that sucks!
