LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-17 AT 09:48AM (MST)[p]Saw this buck the other day. Looks nice. I'm thinking he'll grow another 5 inches maybe on back forks and 3-4 on fronts. 28 inches wide.....??? What you all say?

I think most guys would shoot him. Brian are you seeing decent deer numbers overall or is it as bad as expected after the winter?

Thanks,

Dean

In the same area, same number of days ..... last year I saw about 45 bucks, this year I was at about 50. While I was there it felt like I wasn't seeing as many as in years past, but when I got home I checked numbers from last year and that was it.

I didn't see any fawns, but usually don't anyway. The does and fawns stay in the trees down low for the most part. When I see does with fawns it's usually later in the summer when the fawns are a bit bigger and they venture from the timber more.
I did see a few yearling bucks though. Most of the yearlings are probably still with their mothers.

I just returned from a two night scouting trip. As Founder mentioned, you usually don't see does when you are up high looking for bucks. I saw 5 does, one had 2 fawns, and I saw another with a fawn, the other 3 didn't have any fawns. Saw quite a few yearling bucks. Just my experience.

i say you killed enough monsters the GPS would be in order bout now you can send it to my email... :)

If that was Wyoming and I'm guessing it was then no way is that a shooter.

Too little mass and the forks definitely aren't and won't be deep enough.

To each their own tho....

Nice buck brian, wouldn't shoot him this year ( I have no Deer tag) let him grow till I draw a tag then ,yup shooter

I like the way he's coming along, seems to have good main beams that curl in giving a little extra length. If he grows 5 inches in the back forks and 3 in the front, then ide have a hard time passing. But may be very willing to shoot a buck like this if I saw him on my last day after a long hunt. Thanks for sharing.

I think he gets into the 170s, but won't get to 180 unless he puts 20 more inches on which he possibly could! Cool buck the way he lays out. Not sure if he is a shooter, close for sure.

I too have seen pretty much the same amount of deer this year as last year.

I am hopeful to fill my G tag with a nice velvet bow buck.

I get under 40 yards and yea, I would arrow him.

That's great you guys r seeing deer numbers and some yearlings as well...Sat on my points this year...I'm goin next..one last time. Bh1

He has potential but he's not a no-brainer shooter. But in all honesty, I'd probably shoot him.

Glad to hear the positive reports.

Thanks for the pic and the news.

If he hits that 170 mark, he wouldn't make it into the next year, If he doesn't get any longer in tines, he wouldn't be a shooter way back in there.

Founder, was this the best buck you saw? And of the 50 you saw, what percentage were 4+ year old bucks?

Just curious as to the quality. If you saw more bucks than last year, was the quality comparable?

Thanks for any further update.

I can't say how old the bucks I saw were. I believe it's hard to know, because I think many of the 18-20 inch 3x4's running around are mature deer.....4-7 years old. Some of course are 2-3 year old deer.
Compared to last year, I saw much better bucks last year. But I think they all got shot, and not replaced. I know for certain 3 of the 4 best I saw last year in that spot were killed.

Thanks Founder. The update is appreciated. Hope some of those 3X4's make it through and become 2018 studs.

I'm guessing most of them will survive hunts and return next year looking the same as this year. That's my guess.......
