My grandson drew a pine valley general deer tag. I would appreciate any tips for a spot we could kill a nice buck. I
appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Draw results have been out for pretty close to 5 months and 3 days before the hunt is when you decide to do your "scouting"? How much time have you spent in the unit so far this year trying to figure something out? It's one thing to come ask for help, with the intent on going and looking yourself while asking for suggestions. But to ask for a spot to kill a "nice buck" right before the hunt? Good luck with that

Come on guys. He is new to the fourm. Give the guy a break. It's a pretty big unit. But go up into the wilderness area on top of the mountain. You will find deer there. There are trails from about any side that can get you up there. Good luck!

Deerkiller you are something else, should be ashamed of yourself. When someone asks for help most times it's for a good reason. It's guys like you that ruin it for a lot of us.

Monroemountain one up for you for taking the responsibility. I know of a lot of grandparents helping out or taking responsibility. If I knew the area I would help. I don't hunt for myself much anymore and get great joy out of helping other's especially new comers. Don't let guys like deerkiller ruin things for you. Go and have a good time and make some memories that will last forever.

RE: Pine Valley Utah general

Thanks for the well wishes. And you are right, he is 12 and creating a memory deer or not is worth it. I have been blessed to kill (2) 190 class deer in my life, and nobody scouts an area harder than I do. I was not asking for anyone's honey hole. I spent last weekend covering a lot of ground, and saw a couple of 160-165 class deer. Well do fine....Good luck to you and I hope your hunt is first class.

Good luck...

RE: Pine Valley Utah general

Have you ever hunted the Pine valley unit before ? It will be a zoo. Only way to get away from the crowds. Is hike off the roads somewhere. Sounds like you have already founds some good bucks. But the wilderness area always hold a few good bucks. Pray for snow to push them down to you. That always helps. Good luck and post up a picture or two.

I don't know anything about the unit. I know it holds some good deer. That's a very nice thing to do for the youngster. Please post pics if you get a buck.

"We don't have a gun problem we have prescription drug problem."

Good luck Grandpa I love that you are there to help out and take care of the kid.

It' hard times when kids go through an divorce, no one ever asks them if they want one but they get one just the same.

It's things like this that keep myself thinking that some of the world is alright.

I hope he gets a big one and post up for him if he does I can't wait to hear how he done.

Good luck

Sir,
What you are doing for that young man is awesome. The two of you will create memories for a life time. I wish you the best of luck and if I can help in anyway please PM me.
Best of luck

RE: Pine Valley Utah general

Most of your crowds and deer will start around the NW side of Pine Valley (Enterprise, Ox Valley, Pinto, Central) They will migrate west from there. Everyone is petrified of the crowds, I say follow the crowd. There are no secrets on the Pine Valley unit. If you want some space hike in between Browse and Oak Grove. The cougars keep that side picked over, but there are few good ones in there. It will be quieter if that's what you prefer.

Have a good friend that hunted there on the muzzleloader hunt, got a nice buck opening day. He said there were lots of deer. Good advice on hiking in a ways, that's what they did.
