Going to be going to Colorado 44 4th season and hoping for a good one. I need to "Bone up" on my field judging...

Anybody have some pictures of bucks on their feet that ended up off their feet and getting scored????

Any posts are greatly appreciated!!!!

Sounds like you are getting serious about this 44 tag. Awesome, I hope it works out for you. I'm not to tech savvy or I would post some pics. I would imagine you will be looking for bucks close to or over 200". In my experience when they get that big you just know they are a shooter. Of the bigger bucks I've seen and pursued that were in that class there was no adding up the inches, I just knew they were shooters. Scores just a number anyways. I wouldn't get too caught up on score. Big is big. Good luck.

Yep I'm getting the tag... Yep big is big all my best trophies I knew it in like half a second...feel really comfortable judging Pronghorn elk....sheep.... Goats...a little less with Mule Deer...really not a big score guy...but looking for some general references...I'm not bad at it just want to be better and thought it would be fun..... just have less experience with Mulies...like if there were two bucks exactly the same frame and one had 10 inches of trash...and deductions...I would take the trash ANY day....big is big cool is cool...

They have giant bodies in that country, they can be tough to judge and tend to grow on you as you walk up on them. Good luck!

That's no joke Adwriter!
I just about let my 2011 buck walk because his body was so big it dwarfed his horns. His neck and body were so puffed up it was totally playing games on us.
Good judgement finally prevailed and I shot him just before he walked over the ridge. When we walked up on him I got giddy and screamed like a little girl. He was a legit 200" typical and netted 195.

Go figure.

Yep that is another monkey wrench....bulked up bruiser.....and mass makes then look short...

I know that little girl scream when you have been after something your whole life and there it is....its yours!!! Whoop like I'm on fire!!!

One month from today....

LBH post up the pic....yeah I know your kid has to do all that crazy techno fangled posty picture stuff...but lets see it sounds like a great buck....;)

This is what it's all about... gettin giddy, I love your buck bighorn post him up...

That buck is a prime example of score just being a number. Don't get me wrong a 190" typical is exceptional, but there is no way I'm passing that deer on any unit, anywhere. Talk about eye appeal. What a dandy!

Here you go Adwriter:
I didn't even need my son's help.
I have him live on video but I don't know how to put that to the forum page. Maybe my son could do it???

This buck is only 27" wide but he has crazy length and 43" of mass. His official score is 200 5/8" gross and 195" net.
This picture doesn't show it so much but yes, I almost passed on him because on the hoof his body dwarfed his rack.

LBH.....great buck....beauty. I can see how that would throw you also look like he might have extra large ears. What a classic beauty that buck is....wow and to think he almost walked out of your life forever....

You did say this was a 3rd season right?????

Love to see the video.....

My lord little bighorn! I've seen that picture before but I never knew your buck had 43" of mass! Puts it in better perspective. What a pig.

here's video footage of my 2015 buck.
37" wide and scores right around 200" gross.
He also had a huge head and body.

Get ready for change because it's going to happen!

All of those are no doubters anywhere I've ever hunted!

I agree with the above comment that you know em immediately when you see em.

I think the buck that are high 160s- low 170s are the ones most people struggle with, trying to convince themselves it's going to make the magic 180" mark.

Never put one of those bruisers down so I'm not real familiar with the victory holler on deer.

Unfortunately, all but 2 of those type bucks I've seen in season, with tag in hand, I had a bow in my hand and couldn't get it done.

Congrats to each of you that did.

My current situation precludes me from caring about your opinion but go ahead and give voice to it anyway...
