Colorado GMU's near 70

So, been a long time lurker and actually was a member back in 2011, but my account must have went inactive. I just can't quit fascinating over the idea of hunting and chasing western muleys. I love the mountains and finally have a career that allows me time to get away. I have vacationed and spent lots of time in Colorado in the summer down around Crested Butte/Almont area. I am wanting to start putting in for some preference points toward a rifle hunt. Preferably early rifle season or 2nd/3rd seasons (want to have time to still bow hunt the Iowa rut). Hunting out west will be a new venture for me and something I have always wanted to do, but just haven't had the time to fully commit. I am the type of person that when they commit to something or take on a new endeavor they give 100%, I can't just halfway do something. I love the process, the grinding, the learning, researching, and then finally "doing".

I want to apply for a GMU that is fairly close to I-70 so I can make at least 2-3 trips each year to scout and just get an overall feel for the unit. I have been looking at units: 44, 444, 43, 34, 33, & 42. Not looking for any handouts, but I would love some insight or even to find a mentor figure who would take me on scouting trips (could be any unit not necessarily one of those). I have grown up bowhunting the great state of Iowa and have been fortunate to come from a family of farmers, so I have always had access to 620 acres of amazing ground. I want to chase mature animals that is what gets me going and keeps me in the treestand on those cold November mornings here in Iowa. If any of you would need a hand this fall, mule deer or elk hunting I would love to be a part of the team. I think I would be a great asset for moral support and an able body to help pack gear and hopefully a trophy off the mountain. With that said, I would be more than willing to extend an offer to anyone willing to help me in CO with an offer to come hunt Iowa whitetails on our private farms. I'm 33yrs old, in good physical shape, enjoy sports and everything outdoors. I'm mature, have a truck and plenty of gear or will buy the gear needed. Thanks guys.

I too am a Iowa guy. I have hunted WY and Idaho in the past abd currently building points in CO and WY. Let's connect soon. I am also 33, decently fit, with the right gear. Send me a PM if you want to connect.

You should post this in the swap section as well. 42 and 43 are good deer areas. Of course 44 is, but you need points to draw that although the muzzleloading season is not that bad to draw

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

I appreciate the response. I just added to "swap hunts" section.

It must just be Iowa guys that dream about hunting out west on this forum! I'm from Iowa as well, I've hunted mule deer in WY, UT and twice in CO. I haven't put boots on the ground in the specific units you're talking about, but I've been right next door a couple times.
Feel free to reply or PM if you have specific questions and I'll do my best to help.

Not just a thing for Iowans. I'm from Tennessee and dream of hunting the west AND Iowa! But as a NR, I only get to every 3-4 years.

If I had much to offer, I'd jump on this deal!
