I am looking at planning a high country archery deer hunt in unit 67 ID the first two weeks of season. I am familiar with the lower country but have never been past 8500'. I can see there are plenty of high basins that may be worth my while. I am just looking for a bit of info to help narrow down a few drainages to start. How is the traffic up high? I'm aware itwilll only be horse or hoof, but will I be battling all the deer hunters bunched up in one area? or will they be scattered throughout the unit? I can't imagine too many hunters up past 9000', especially with the lack of maintained trails. I am aware that last winter was tough and deer numbers are down,
I am prepared for that.
I don't live too far away so I will have ample time to scout it out. Just looking for some areas with less amounts of hunters of either species, and peoples recent experiences on this hunt. I am aware of the amount of bear, that isn't an issue. Thanks in advance, I'd offer some elk hunting advice on the unit but didn't have much of that there this past season. Tough hunting, but thats how I like it. thanks!

My experience with archery hunting deer in Idaho is that there isn't much hunting pressure. You might run into some other hunters that are primarily targeting elk with bows but I don't think you will see many if any other deer hunters. You could hunt Monday through Friday and possible not see any archery deer hunters. Even in units that have higher number of other hunters, I've gone multiple days without seeing another archery hunter. If you are hunting/camping in the same basin as another hunter it could cause additional challenges but even if there is another archery deer hunter in the same basin as you, you will likely never know they are there.
Deer densities also are not very high in 67. Don't plan on seeing many deer. If you are going to get a deer with a bow in unit 67, you are going to have to earn it. Good luck.

Winter kill was pretty bad last year, there are easier units in So Id. I'll look at some maps and show you where I've seen bucks in Aug in 67.
