Utah Bonus Permits

I read a lot of the fourms on this site and have picked up some great information, However I have not seen anything about Bonus Permits with a Resident and Non Resident on the same application.

The question is if we apply as a group for LE Deer and I'm in the pool of Bonus Permits (I have plenty of points) will we both get the bonus permit?

Would it make a difference which one of us submits the drawing application? Both of us will also be submitting for other hunts (I have 16 Goat points)and we know it must all be done at the same time.
Any hard facts about the DWR rules would be helpful. I know the drawing order and if you are drawn for deer our once in a lifetime are out of play.
Any strategy or good advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The short answer is if you apply with a nonresident then you essentially will be bound by the nonresident quota. When your application is evaluated based on your draw # if there isn't a NR tag still available then neither of you will get a tag.

You can put in together for one species then go back in and apply individually for others like your goat tag

Couple other things to think about with group apps. Remember that they will average your points, then round DOWN!!! Utah is one of the states that does it this way. You actually lose a point.

Also, if there is only one NR tag available, it will go in the random draw instead of the BP draw. Essentially neither of you will have a chance of getting a tag (unless you are powerball lucky).

Thanks all for the information, It looks like we may be waiting a year of two. Friend has 13 Bonus Points as a Non Res, I have 12 as a resident. I think the cut off will be 14 points for Non Res, LE Book Cliffs Muzzleloader this year. If just a few applicants shift to Vernon or Paunsaguant Muzzleloader LE deer tag or even switch to any weapon we just might draw this year.

Why wait until you can both draw? Here's an option. You draw on separate years and hunt together on both hunts. Spending all your bonus points and then trying to fill 2 tags with quality bucks is much more difficult than just trying to fill one. You can draw out and both hunt together one year where he helps you and learn the area and then he can draw out as soon as he has the points and you can both go out and you help him. You will know the area already from your hunt and be much more likely to both fill tags with quality bucks.

Listen to ElkManDan -

My family and I have put in for the Book Cliffs separately all the time. As such, we have had 3 family members who have hunted already, including myself (and the others tagged along), and we are hoping that another 2 will draw in the next 1-3 years.

It's a great way to build multiple memories. Also, given what I know about the Book Cliffs, finding two quality bucks in the same year, especially on the Muzzy Hunt, would be difficult.

Yep, been hoping for years they would increase the NR quota by one. Other than that PPs are useless. Just another donation. Hope them goats appreciate it.

Plus one^^^

That's what I'd suggest too!
2 great hunts in different years instead of one frantic hunt with two tags to fill

Same vote.... hunt two times two different years. More hunting time in a limited entry unit and better chances at getting a bigger buck.
