Looking for any advice u guys can give as my dad is retiring in spring of 2020 and I'd like to get him a good hunt for his retirement and for all he's ever done for me and my two sons getting us all involved in the outdoors. He's never killed a buck over 170 and I'm looking to be around the 7-8k mark if possible. I've talked to Travis at bucks and bulls and John Cole but any insight anyone can give is much appreciated, thanks

John has the best bucks in OR but I wouldn't count on a chance at a 180.

I'm not sure what his current prices are but for a hunt you don't have to draw for I'd talk to Scott Limmer in CO.

You cannot go wrong with Bucks And Bulls, I guided for them for 20 years and will vouch for them with high honors!

A realistic chance, or an expectation of a deer that size is going to run into the 10-12k range. Honest 180 bucks aren't as common as some people make them out to be.

Good for you for helping your dad out, I hope you get a big one!

Try a CMWU and pay for the hunt. There are several in that price range that have animals of the kind you are looking for I will send you a PM

I don't know how Utah outfitters compare on consistency of good bucks and price but I think you should be looking at Colorado outfitters. Any quality CO outfitter should provide a chance at 180 buck. Most CO units offer that opportunity to even a DIY guy.

A couple to check out are Burns Hole outfitters (a ranching for wildlife participant, near the top of your budget)and Crystal Rivers outfitters (https://www.facebook.com/privateelkhunting). I know of CRO and they consistently kill big bucks on private land. Tags are easy to get and pricing in below what you want to spend.

It pains me to say this, but ocho is right. Call Scott Limmer, Comanche Peaks Wilderness Outfitters. He has plains deer hunts and kills a few over 200 most years. I prolly just gave Lennie his new signature.

Some might question him because of his involvement with Brownlee and Doyle over the years but I'd look at Clay Hill at Hill Guides and Outfitters out of Kremmling, Co.

Also, Alex Nestor of Eastern Colorado Outdoors would be a good option if you would like to do a plains hunt. I'm pretty sure he averages 180plus on all his deer if score is a big issue.

Kurt Lewis with Blue Mountain Hunts in Monticello, UT is a great option. 435-459-1284. He runs the Spring Creek/Dodge CWMU and has been doing it for decades. We started hunting with him in 1998 and have killed some great deer with him. I even guided for him for a couple years and can vouch for the great time you will have and the amount of deer you will see. You still have to hunt to find a 180" deer but they are certainly doable and you will see 60 - 100 bucks a day to keep you occupied while you search for Mr. Big. Kurt is one of the best people God ever created and I'd be willing to bet that you would return to hunt with him again once you do it once. He books up pretty quickly so I would call him sooner than later. I would recommend the earliest in September you can hunt. He runs a great operation and will be in your budget. Plus the food is wonderful as well.

I also have a contact around the Durango, CO area that has 10,000 acres of Family land they guide on. They kill a lot of really big deer each year as they come down off the mountain later in the fall. I've never personally hunted with them, but I know they kill multiple bucks over 200" each year. I don't know what they get for a tag but it would also be in your price range I am sure.

Another vote for Scott Limmer, a family friend guides for him and this past fall they were on bucks well over 200, one pushing 230 that I believe made it through to this point.

Kurt Lewis has the ground and knowledge to put ya on some awesome bucks. If it's a Utah hunt that you are looking for.
PRICE that he charges are up there.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-22-18 AT 03:25PM (MST)[p]I hunted with Scott Limmer a couple years ago, 2 on 1 hunt, the other hunter killed a 180 the first day, I killed a 220 on day 3. Iam going back in a few years. He is booked out several years I think

Thanks for all the info guys after the holidays and first of the year I'll be making some phone calls hopefully something will work out

J&D Outfitters in Colorado has some great plains deer hunting. Have hunted with Doyle Worbington in the past and I would highly recommend him. Good luck.

I looked up the Scott Limmer website.
Their fees didn't seem out of line I guess the big hurdle is
drawing the tag. I would think LO tags pricey

Thanks for posting Scott's website I'm keeping his name in my file

Scott Limmer does not post his prices for his Eastern Plains hunts.

Get a hold of Garrett and Ed Woolstenhulme. Ed is on instagram and facebook. Check out his muleytines page and you can see some of the deer they have killed. I'm not sure if they have a website anymore for the outfitting service. As most of their clients are returning customers. He and his brother have killed some great bucks in utah on CWMU's. They just picked up a new lease in northern utah. And the lease they just got rid of was great. But R&K picked it up for 4 times as much. They managed that property really well. Killed great bucks on that ranch and would assume they will continue to do so on there newer leases.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-19 AT 12:31PM (MST)[p]Mr. Money, I was just reading your post regarding a contact you had in Durango, Co. I was wondering if you'd be interested in sharing that resource.

Myself and a long time friend and coworker in the Fire Service hunted a family ranch near Topanas for 20+ years. The elders have since passed and the children are in the restructuring mode. When we hunted their ranch we actively helped them with their cattle, fence repairs and cut wood in the off time not hunting. This was not in lieu of hunting fees but merely the fact that we both come from an Ag. background and enjoy the work especially around cattle. We are looking for the same rapport.

Thank you in advance,
K. Luke Whiteley
