Hey guys,
I follow a lot of the posts on here and am always seeing a lot of argument about different foundations and whether they support the right causes or are just in it for the money. It seems like depending on your political stance there is not one organization that I have seen that isn't scrutinized. My question is this.. I have been wanting to get involved with some sort of a foundation, are there any out there anyone would have a hard time arguing with that do a great job for Mule Deer herds throughout the West? Or do I need to do a lot more investigating and see what I like the most based off my values and theirs. Hope that makes sense.
Thanks

The biggest and the best is RMEF. While they are focused on Elk, almost all project they do directly benefit the Deer.

I am not saying they are the best but they seem to do the most.

there is a website out there somewhere that will tell you the overhead costs of all 501(c)(3)non-profit organizations. So you can see how much of every dollar donated goes to their cause, and how much of it pays for their Executive director, etc. This should help you decide who to do business with.

Although I agree that the RMEF is a great institution I would go with the Mule Deer foundation. Elk seem to be doing pretty good almost everywhere. In my opinion mule deer are in the most jeopardy of any western big game species and elk do compete with mule deer on a some level. I'm an elk nut but I've been thinking of concentrating my dollars and manpower to mule deer because they are in big trouble.

They are in BIG Trouble & I'm Glad Real Hunters/Sportsmen can see it!

I know so many people in so many places
They make allot of money but they got sad faces

It Ain't Easy being Me!:D:D:D

B&C is the founder of the North American Model of Conservation and therefore have a major impact on wildlife and the conservation and management of it. Go with them. I think we can all agree that they aren't anti gun. They are a safe bet.

By loving Mule Deer and to see the decline of the species, it would be absurd to Join the Elk Foundation. If you want to be hands-on and really contribute to Mule Deer then by far the Mule Deer Foundation- And as the other comment is semi-true about working for Elk contributes to Mule Deer. Not really, They do not coexist together as one. They compete against each other. So depending on what you truly are- A Mule Deer lover or and Elk Lover- do the research and decide. and if its Sheep you love well then there is the WSF as well. Heres a link to some knowledge from some experts on Mule Deer:

I think you are missing why people are choosing to support RMEF over MDF. Especially on this site, people tend to be leery of MDF's involvement with SFW. I'm not necessarily one of those people, but it seems that the RMEF has proved greater responsibility with the money given them than the MDF.

And before the MDF people get mad, I'm not saying they don't do anything or that they are a bad organization. Just pointing out why a bunch of people on this site are leery of them.

Slamdunk I am from Utah County as well, but I'm actually working out of the country right now and only come home a few times a year. I'm hoping to join somewhere and then be a little more ?boots on the ground? once I move back home.

I think another thing to note is you can belong to more than one
organization. I belong to multiple organizations, just the membership alone helps a little bit. Belong to several but then prioritize which one to help considering the time, money and also projects that are close enough to you that you can participate. One project might be RMEF the next the Mule Deer Foundation. It's not like you have to spend a grand a year to belong to each!
