Folks.. Thanks for any input you may can give.

Been on guided Elk hunt or two in New Mexico and want to now try a Mule deer hunt. I really don't want to spend a fortune and being from Tennessee, not sure how to attack this.

I would like to try a 2019 Mule diy deer hunt in Colorado with my nephew or maybe even in New Mexico. I am not sure how to pick an area and if possible, would love to find a public unit that does not allow motorized vehicles, but they might not exist.

Someone may have a cabin or place to rent with some area information and that would be great. First time might just be a huge learning curve for us. I am approaching 60, so I am afraid my window is closing in fast.

Really appreciate any information you may have.

Feel free to email me at [email protected].

Thanks and God bless!

Public land Colorado deer hunts with a rifle are pretty much a points game. Do you have any points there? If not you'll need to budget for a landowner tag and those won't be out for awhile if I'm
not mistaken. Good luck in your search.

I have read a little about the point system. Would love to head back to New Mexico, I know some say there aren't that many mule deer in any of the units and might still give that a shot. I love unit 52, but I think that was the unit that had so many vehicles in it.

I was hoping to find the most remote unit to eliminate the vehicle traffic.

Thanks

Might look at wyoming. There are some units and regions you can draw with 0points. Start your research now. You have a little time before you have to apply.

I'm from Tennessee also, Knoxville. What about you?

I've hunted WY on a General tag several times, all with no points, all on public land. It's been a few years since my last hunt. There are posts on here with nice General tag WY deer, as well as several CO posts with nice deer on 2nd choice, no point tags. Most of these seem to be residents.

When we hunt WY, we also get a zero point antelope tag, and occasionally an OTC antelope doe tag. We don't kill monster bucks, but usually have at least one chance at a 160"+ deer. Not a monster to those looking for 180 inchers, but 160 is good for us. I think it's been Region A and C we've hunted. I'll check my notes and post it here.

walooo1,

Post this on the NM forum, there's a lot of great guys over there and some damn
fine hunters. Crazymaez, knows that state really well

Good luck
