I should have enough points, based on last years numbers, to draw the Ensign ranch deer tag this year but wondered if any of you have had this tag and what was your experience like? I will be reaching out to the operator but wanted to hear from others that have hunted it as well.

I've been in there on an antlerless elk tag in November and saw some beautiful bucks!!!

The operator will do everything possible to make your hunt as difficult as possible. There are some great deer on the property though.

I hunted it around 10-12 years ago. There were a lot of deer. I would call and see what the season dates and number of days they will let you hunt. It's a neat ranch with a lot of animals. There were a lot of nice bucks 24-26 inches. They let me drive around and do my own thing back then. I didn't shoot a giant but it was fun. I would hunt it again if I could. I got a 29 7/8 4x4 170 class buck. Hope this helps.

A good friend of mine had that tag 2 years ago. You'll have the choice of hunting 5 days in October, or November 1-5. They will try and talk you out of hunting in November, citing that the Bucks could migrate out if there is a lot of snow. While that can happen, it's not the norm. I wold take the November dates.

You'll be assigned a "guide" that will ride along in your vehicle with you. He will not assist in finding animals, or tell you where to look. His job will be to open gates for you, and make sure you don't stray off the property. They will let you hunt anywhere you want, as long as it's on the unit. Definitely take a GPS with unit boundaries on it.

Great hunt for someone looking for a 170+ Buck, and needs good orad access.
