So this year I'm mainly hunting Catalina Island off the coast of California. I grew up hunting mule deer here on the island, now I am going to school out of state but I am back for the summer. I feel like it is one of the most unique places to hunt in the west and one of the only places you can hunt mule deer on an island since Santa Rosa doesn't have any deer or elk on it anymore. The deer were brought over in the early 1900's by the Wrigley family who own the island, and yes they are the same Wrigley's who had the chewing gum business and who use to own the Chicago Cubs. Anyways since the deer were originally from southern California they don't have the genetics that produce huge antlers like you see through some of the western states, but there are still some nice deer and they are a blast to hunt! Also because the deer don't have any natural predators on the island the only means of managing the population is through hunting and therefore we have one of the longest hunting seasons in California. So I got couple of tags in my pocket and will start bowhunting in July and have a rifle season in the fall. As of right now I don't have any other tags. I struck out on Arizona Elk, and still waiting for Arizona deer results.

Here are some pictures from a little scouting I did the other day. I know the quality isn't the best, but the deer were pretty far off and the photos were taken with an iPhone through binoculars. The buck on the left though is actually a pretty nice 3X4.
Also saw a bison while out there. The bison were also introduced to the island in the early 1900's. There is no hunting permitted for them, but they are still cool to see.
