I am thankful for my guide Taylor Albrecht for helping me get a great Henry mountain Bison !!!

I got a little bored waiting for the turkey to get done. So I posted up a quick picture. Going along the lines of thanksgiving. ? My bull was over eight years old. We are guess 8 to 10 years old. I was told by Taylor, who is also a good friend and a great guide. That you can tell how old they are by their teeth until the age of eight. After eight you have to send a tooth sample into the division. So we will know better when we get it back. Sorry that i am not a great storyteller like Predator! I was to busy hunting and take care of the meat. Being that we killed on opening day and it was a warm year. I did go back with a metal detector and recover my first shot during the first weekend of the late hunt. I shot him once broad side in the lungs and the second quartering to me threw the front shoulder . Putting him on the ground after the herd of sixty ran off and left him behind.

I think I am going to do a pedestal mount. If anyone has ideas I would love to see them. We are also doing a European mount . The taxidermist is going to do a mold and reproduce the horns for the skull mount. We will use the originals on the shoulder mount. Nothing will go to waste. So we will tan the back half of the hide and maybe a seemless purse for the wife. ?

>Thats a big old beast!

>feed him?
>Congrats on a great trophy

I gave him a pill from my 300 Tejas . I have been collecting bullets for this hunt in hopes of working up a new load. Burger Hybrid 230's, Barnes Lrx 200's and Hornadys eldx 212's . But couldn't get it done in time to get a turret made. So I just went with my deer/elk load. A Barnes 168 grain Ttsx.

The middle was the first shot that took out a three to four inch section of rib and also caught the rib behind it. Ended up on the other side up against the rib cage. The second shot to the right was a threw the shoulder quartering away shot. That dropped the bull in his tracks. This is the first time I have ever recovered a Barnes bullet from a animal. These Bison are tough big animals. Especially when you are dealing with a big bull.

The Bison European mount has to be the best looking of all!

Way to go JT.
I was pleased you let me know of your success.
That thing is a damned tank of a bull!

Did you notice the pedestal mount that Mossback had in their booth the last couple of years at the Expo? I liked that mount a lot.

Thanks Zeke

Oh crap ! Just got a call from the butcher. My meat is done and ready to be picked up. That's not the oh crap part tho. He said there are 11 boxes of meat !

Thanks for the picture Kevin ! I heard the story of the kill shot a few times . A little further then what I wanted to take. ? How old was your bull ? Need a picture with someone next to it to see how big it is on the pedestal . I saw the Bison mount as you walk into the the Expo. I was surprised how big it looked.

Yep ! That looks better then the other picture. Did you send a tooth in on that one ? What's with the boot? Did you need a little time off work ? I have seen in a few of your other pictures.

No I didn't have to send a tooth in and we are guessing 6 years old on the bull. I broke my ankle playing recreation football. Been off work since the first part of June. It's definitely not how I wanted my summer to go

Thanks Marley. I pull up the pictures of your den you had up a while ago. So right after my hunt I was already looking at your bull. Thanks for sharing your trophy room with us.
