I am looking at hunting antelope in 47, 48, or 52. I am wondering which one has the best hunt potential. I am not a trophy hunter. I am looking for a place to see a lot of antelope and look over several bucks. Also want to be able to camp close to where the action is. I appreciate any comments you have to offer. PM me if you want. We should have the points to draw any of these 3. Also, any other areas that might offer a better hunt? Looking at rifle hunting the first week of Oct to miss the opening day crowds.

Thanks for your comments.

47 if you can draw it. Public land with camping available, small campground or plenty on BLM. Antelope numbers should be ok. Wait to apply til after winter though to check on winter kill.

Thanks for the reply. Good point on the winterkill. It may be a factor this year. In general, does 47 have more antelope than 48? I see that 47 gets a lot more permits. I have trouble telling whether the tag allocation is based on numbers of antelope or available access to public land. Some areas look to me like they get more tags because the goats are on private land.

The tag numbers are generally based on herd population. When tags are up animals numbers are generally up too. I believe 47 has more access but could be wrong. HMA's and walkin areas with lots of BLM.

Thanks. I have been researching the walk in areas in 47. I have never been in 47 and just know a little more about the other two areas. My buddy wants to hunt 47 so that is where I am concentrating my research right now. Gonna call the biologist when I get a chance. The large BLM areas should help

If the weather allows, I love "nomad hunting" for antelope. We pack our tent gear food, etc. in the truck and hunt all day. Then when night falls, we just find a flat spot off the side of the road and set up camp. The next morning we get up early enough to break camp and we are right where we left off. It has worked very well for us in the past, but we have never tried to do it during dicy weather conditions.
