Backpacking in for a goat hunt

I'm pretty sure I'll draw this year and just starting to make plans. I'm thinking about possibly renting llamas to get our supplies and gear in for a 3-5 day hunt. Has anyone done this? What did you do with the llamas when hunting? I'm sure I'll be asking for more help along the way as I have never done a backpack trip like this before. Thanks in advance for any advice

Cheese, my brother and I used llamas on our Wy. deer hunt in 2016. We spent 6 days on the mountain and loved every minute. The llamas spent the days at camp and were perfectly content when we returned in the evenings. I think half the fun was dealing with the llamas and the ease of hauling gear.

I am in the process of building my own pack string of llamas.

Pictures from our hunt.

Did it once in Wyoming for deer as well. They were a joy to deal with and made packing in much easier as they could carry close to 70 lbs if you wanted them to. You could probably walk them into the ground if you really wanted to or were trying to put on 10 miles as fast as you could without a pack, so just take it slow. Also, remember there are places they can't go, think rocks and where you are pulling yourself up and over boulders. They just need a little bit of water and feed daily.

I've used llamas and they can work well. Not just any llama is a good packer though. We borrowed llamas from one of my dads buddies once and it gave up about halfway into our hike. Just laid down and wouldn't budge.
The next trip we rented llamas and they worked much better. We did have one young stud that was a pain in the butt and wouldn't let us saddle him to come off the mountain, but the other 3 were great.
Bottomline, they can work real well if you get good ones. Like any pack animal I suppose.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm way excited about this if it works out. Either way with or without llamas it should be a fun hunt. I've waited a long time for this so I've got a lot of prep work to do on how to hunt these things let alone how to judge and identity them from a billy or nanny and then if it's a good enough goat to take. I look forward to any advice that comes along
