Just got the email- successful for 2017! What a great motivator! Fortunately, I did some training over the winter for trail running to help keep some of the winter insulation off... This gives me a big reason to amp it up over the next few months. I cannot wait to get up in the Uinta high country this summer! Is it September yet? Always open to any advice, recommendations or tips! I am a little concerned about hitting the area at the right time to get a great long haired coat versus when this place will get socked in with too much snow- that'll be a debate.

congrats guys!!

rraney that is an awesome unit for goats ( i had a tag there in 13') there are some big ones on the unit!! Good luck to you!

I drew this tag as well!!!! I can't wait to get up and start looking for goats!!! Should be a fun hunt. What are your plans? Backpack? Horses? Day hikes? I'm still deciding how to approach this:)

LAST EDITED ON May-25-17 AT 02:05PM (MST)[p]Congrats Cheesecanyon! I reserved llamas yesterday for this hunt- so I'll plan on having a basecamp in the backcountry. For scouting- my plan will be 2-3 three to four day scouting trips in between mid July and the beginning of August, essentially with the objective of locating goats.

That'll be a fun hunt, fun scouting trips too. Good luck. This will be my first time after Mountain Goats. I'm stoked. Need to get to shooting!
I wonder when their coats are at the best?

I've been told to hold out as long as you can for a great coat (that's what I'm going for) In your case founder you have a bit of advantage over the Unitas tag holders with your Wasatch tag:) I've talked to a avid backpacker that hikes the Unitas often and he said he wouldn't go to far into October for fear of getting snowed in. But on the other hand I've also been told that the goats "fur up" pretty quick in this area because of this. Either way I'm way excited to have this tag and learn as much as possible. I've seen great goats in the Wasatch unit and that's what I was holding out for but I'm getting a quit a few points for deer across a few states and decided this is my year for goat so I put in for Unitas. Can't wait to start scouting!!!! We're planning a trip with the next 4-6 weeks to start.

If I ever got one I think I would make him into a rug. I think they really look nice like that.

How are you guys going to do your goats?

I'm sitting on a pile of goat points myself and can't wait until I finally draw. Hopefully next year! Anyway, when I finally get one, either of these two mounts are how I will have mine done. I think they are both incredible!
