Looking to hunt the Yukon

I've been dreaming about this hunt for a while, need to get going before I'm too old. I'm thinking moose with option of grizzly and or caribou. I would want a mountain hunt vs a river float type hunt. Anybody have any recommendations as far as outfitters to use or not use?

Take a look at Jim Fink at Blackstone Outfitters. Hunted with him twice. Beautiful area with lots of game, honest and upfront outfitter with a top notch operation. He's not the cheapest and definitely not the most expensive. He's got all of the animals on your list.

Here is a short video of my last trip there

Thank you, great video. Blackstone was one I had on my list based on a previous post.

I went to the Yukon Outfitters Association web site and then in turn to several of the outfitter's web sites. they all look pretty good, so it will be hard to decide.

Dan Reynolds for GIANT moose. A bear shouldn't be a problem either. I don't believe the caribou move into his concession until late winter in case that was high on your list. Dan is a low volume/high quality outfitter. I was fortunate to hunt Fannin's with him a couple of years ago. Awesome experience, country and people.

Ramslam, that looks like a world class bull. Not that it needs to be scored to appreciate, but I had to ask if you did because it looks like it would go deep into the books. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure there is a great story to go with it.

Someone to consider is Northwest Big game outfitters out of Atlin BC. Jack Goodwin has huge moose, sheep and BIG BEARS! I have taken 5or 6 hunters with me and we all have taken very good animals. This is where Freddy Dodge of Gold Rush got his top 2 Booners. I took him his first time with Jack. muzzle loader moose and now they are very good friends.

Looked at some web sites. One had a moose hunt priced at $28,000. maybe have to rethink this adventure.

But thanks for the replies.

Goldhunter,
If you are willing to be flexible on who you go with you can score a great moose cancellation hunt. It will be relatively last minute but you can save thousands. You would be forced to do your due diligence quickly in that situation as multiple people will be looking at it.

You can sign up for notifications with the large booking agents as most keep an email contact list for such things. I've seen them up to 50% off as the hunter walked away from their deposit but usually $2-5k in discounts are normal. I hope you are able to put something together.

I was considering Yukon or NWT for my A-Y Moose, but starting to think better of it. Not because I can't afford it, but because the outfitters IMO are pushing the prices to the point of being a silly amount for a Moose hunt. Especially with the tremendous exchange rate advantage the Canucks have right now when they charge in US Dollars. For the 25k USD they're asking for these hunts, I'm wondering how many times I could hunt Moose in Alaska on my own for that amount of money? Maybe 6 times. If I got 'er done in AK in three tries, I'd save half the cost, and have three times the number of north country experiences.

I would love to do a drop camp a few times in Alaska but I just can't get that much time off school in September.

The bull grossed 232 and netted 227. Only 61.5" wide. When I had it scored it beat the current WR muzzy by 2"; since then another has been scored 2" bigger than mine so I guess that makes it #2 now.

Now I just gotta figure out how to get back up there in a few years!

in the one picture that the broken piece is

higher if it stayed attached.
