My wife and I drew deseret. We will be hunting Oct 12-14th. We will be taking our 3 young children with us ages 8,5,and 18 months. We thought this permit would be a very good opportunity to expose them a little more in depth to what we love to do! They have always been around after the hunt for meat and trophy preservation. But never on a hunting trip. These kids spend lots of time scouting and camping. I guess my biggest question is, is it worth pulling my trailer up to deseret and camping there or should I just get a motel room in Evanston? From what I understand there is no shortage of antelope up there and I don't want to haul my trailer for nothing. DLL will not let you camp the night before the hunt either. I have never hunted there before and just wanted an idea of others opinions.thanks!

I have done the doe hunt with both of my boys. We always stay in hotel in Evanston and drive out in early morning. Easy hunt if weather is cooperating for you. My youngest was done hunting in 30 minutes. I would suggest checking with outfitter to get OK for the family because it says only one guest in the past.

Some camp up there and they will let you stay in a certain place where they tell you too and when they will let you get on ranch to park. It can get real cold up there so be careful so it does not freeze up on you.

IT is a great hunt to introduce kids or wife to hunting.

Yes the info stated 2 guest per person. We each have a permit so that would allow us 4 guests total. I have spoke to the operator once about bringing my kids and it didn't seem to be an issue. But it probably wouldn't hurt to call again. That way I could also get a feel for antelope numbers just in case the hunt may be harder than anticipated. The reason I wanted to take the kids is because I figured it would be a low pressure/high probability of success type of deal. Is there enough demand for rooms in Evanston that I would need to book before the hunt? Thanks

Should be plenty of rooms. You may want to shop for the best deal or make sure the hotel has a pool for the kids. My boys thought it was such a special deal to stay in hotel for their hunts with dad.

Plenty of goats on the ranch. We always headed south and would spot a herd from the road and plan a stock usually along a ridge to get in close.

My oldest was a fun hunt and a 1 mile stock. I keep reminding him to shoot the doe not the buck that was with her as we hid in the sage at 80 yards. The pack out was so much fun to watch him pack her out on his back. Skin them out right away and get them on ice as soon as possible and you'll find the meat is great.

You'll have a blast with the family. Great memories!!!
