Hello all, I am a Utah resident and have hunted my whole life for deer and elk, but I've never been antelope hunting. This year, I'd love to start putting in for antelope, but as a newbie, I have no idea where to start. I know it's a long shot to draw out the first year, but miracles do happen! I'm just asking for any advice on where to go. I don't expect anyone to tell me their secret spot, but any advice at all will be greatly appreciated. I believe I've narrowed it down to either Southwest Desert or San Rafael, North for rifle. Thoughts?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-06-18 AT 11:24AM (MST)[p]Unless there is something preventing you from leaving the state of Utah or that otherwise limits you to only hunting in Utah, I'd push you to focus on Wyoming.

Chris, I am taking my kids (twin 12 year olds) on an antelope hunt in Wyoming in an area we've always gone 3 for 3 on pretty good goats. You're welcome to apply with us if you'd like and we could show you the ropes. PM me if you have any interest...no pressure at all :)

Here is one I took in 2013....84% draw with 0 points

That was the second biggest of our group that year and the third was similiar. Shoot me a PM if you'd like

Those are two of the top units for Utah and if putting in plan on putting in for a minimum of seven plus years before drawing unless you are open to archery then you can get drawn in a couple years.

Agree you can get drawn in Wyoming and hunt each year or every other year before Utah. That being said- my boys and wife have done well in Utah on goats but takes years applying or knowing someone to put in with as we did last year for my youngest. Goat hunting is a lot of fun and you usually see a lot of animals. Good luck.

Best areas in Utah are the San Rafael & S W Desert for really big antelope bucks-- just start with gaining a Pref Point every year, takes 8--10 years, then you have a chance to draw.

Great advice on Wyoming---- Look up toprut.com on the net, put in for Wyoming info for antelope draws, areas, odds, look at the maps on Wy G & F Dept info., you'll see areas you can draw every year with Zero Points, & enjoy the fun. Great experiences ! Not monster buck areas generally speaking, but you never know what can happen. I have hunted Wyoming off & on for 40 years as a Non Resident & then 10 years as a Resident while living in Cheyenne, I know a lot about Wyoming Antelope hunting, my passion is hunting big trophy antelope, love it ! Nothing like it because you can with enough knowledge & perseverience & time, some day take a huge buck on BLM Land in a number of Western States.

Glad to help you ! Just E Mail me : [email protected]
