Moose Question

Learning all I can about Moose before my hunt. What is the typical width of a mooses head and ears. Trying to get an idea of how to field judge the width of the antlers when looking at a moose through a scope or camera.

Thanks in advance for the responses.

The basic rule when hunting Shiras moose, If he forks on the front Tines on both sides. Shoot it. Generally speaking that's a pretty good bull.

22? alert, and 30? flattened out. If you're shooting for score he must have forked brow times to get the most credit

Yea that one I have defiantly learned on here thanks to all the great guys. Forks on front are good!! LOL just wondering about the ears and how wide they typically are so I could get a quick rough estimate on how wide he might be.

Thanks for your help @Deerkiller I appreciate it.

9 to 9.25 inches between the eyes. I liked to use 9 on a regular bull or 9.25 if its a really old big bull. Works great on evaluating trail cam and spotting scope pics at home on target bulls. These measurements were spot on for both my record book bulls.

So how long are the typical ears? 9" between ears and 10" ears to typically 29" ear tip to ear tip?

My wife has a moose tag for up here in Idaho. We have some of the same questions as you about judging. Thank you for asking these before me lol
