I drew a South Slope Yellowstone moose tag this year, was extremely lucky to draw, and I am exciting for this opportunity. I am wondering about Murdock Basin up Mirror Lake highway. Is that a good area to put a lot of time into scouting? Or would there be other area up that way worth checking out. Just trying to get some pointers/info in that neck of the woods, pertaining to moose. Thanks!

I hunted Shiras Moose in Wyoming many years ago, back when moose were much more plentiful than they are now. The best advice I got back then was to be cover as much country as possible and talk to as many people as you can, who know the area.
I'd start with the DWR biologist over that area and then go from there. You've already got an offer from a fellow MMer above so stay in touch with him for sure. I'd recommend talking to anyone you meet who's headed to or been in the area and ask them if they've seen moose. Most people are happy to share their encounters with a Bullwinkle.
Moose are not hard to spot in the open, but they are big and black and they don't like the sun on them when it's hot, so they spend a good deal of time in shady timber. So don't give up easily on a spot that has moose sign.
If you can find some areas where some cows are hanging, when the rut comes on there will be a bull or two around, so keep checking on them.
You have a rare tag indeed, so I wish you the best. Have a blast.

I spend a good deal of time in the Moon Lake/Yellowstone area, I'm going scouting for elk in the next week or two I'll keep you in the loop if I find any moose. I typically don't see any monsters but there are some decent bulls in there.

Last time I was in that area I saw moose near the U-Bar Ranch on the Uinta River (have seen them there multiple times over the years). Good luck and take some friends with strong backs with you :)

Awesome, thanks! And thanks for those that have responded with info/tips I'm excited and can't wait for the hunt. I'm trying to talk with as many people as possible and scout as much as i can. I've seen a couple small bulls up around Soapstone, so I'll keep looking. Thanks again!
