What is everyone's thoughts on this tag?

First off I am a die hard archer and love this idea, the 3 week season has me a little nervous as to what the sheep will be doing that late in the year.

How many points do you think it will take to draw the tag and do you think a good ram could be harvested given time, and the sheep moving from within the park?

I've hunted that unit and I am guessing some avid archer with quite a few points is going to go after that tag. I think it's the best unit in the state for taking an archery ram. That being said, it's never easy to get in bow range of sheep.
I've never hunted that late and on my hunt I tried to stay away from the park boundary because getting caught hunting inside it is a serious infraction of the law. I would not expect to find rams wandering out of the park then. I think they come out more looking for ewes to breed than traveling at that time of year. Keep in mind the disease event that unit is going through began in the park so who knows what to expect in that part of the unit.
That's all I got. Best of luck.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-05-19 AT 03:54PM (MST)[p]I am excited about this hunt and plan on applying for it with my 18 points. I'm willing to risk my points on an archery hunt, hoping for better draw odds than the any weapon hunts. Also, a chance to hunt sheep on the Zion unit, which may never happen for me with current point creep. I wish the season for this new archery hunt was a little longer, and also not during a "migration" time for the sheep, as some may not migrate at all. Seems like it would be tough to stalk a sheep and get one in bow range that late in the year after hunting pressure, but I don't know how much hunting pressure Zion sheep get either. Lots of unanswered questions. I went to the RAC meetings and it seems that the division is offering this type of hunt to give more people the opportunity to hunt sheep, even if it comes at a much lower harvest success rate. I don't think the permit numbers for this hunt will come out until the applications have already come in. This may skew the draw a bit with this new hunt, so any weapon permit applications could spread out a bit, easing up on point creep. Either way, i'm sure its a big risk to apply for this hunt. It would be pretty neat to take a ram with archery equipment though...Good luck to all in the draws >>----->

With such a Short Season and that late in the year, it could be a weather event thru most of the hunt dates.

Tough choice------->

There are so many archery hunters now the odds will be $hit just like the rest of ut draws!
