Coyote Contest

I'm headed out in the morning, gonna try to call and film solo. Should be interesting!

I wish they would have started this awhile ago.

didn't do worth a sh!t today. only made 4 stands, saw 2 dogs on the 3rd stand, one was a long ways away, too far to call in, had another come in to about 800 yards and saw me move when I thought the coast was clear. Started alarm barking. So, I packed up my stuff and went home.

Maybe next time.

Wow I guess I'm not the only one having poor luck. Made 9 stands the other day not a dog showed. Yip dog calling has certainly got harder. I have a friend tell me he is 30 + stands now without a dog. Not for a lack of sign either. Good luck to all in the contest a few should hit the dirt.

I'm gonna put the snowshoes on and hike in further for each set. That and call less and wait more.

They're still killable.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-02-13 AT 11:06PM (MST)[p]Hang in there guys.

Coyote hunting now a days is much harder than it use to be. These dogs are smart and have heard the call before. At my local wal-mart every yote call is gone from the shelf. Its just that much more of a reward when you do get one on the ground.

I might go out in morning tmw and do a few stands.

Good Luck

LAST EDITED ON Jan-03-13 AT 07:16AM (MST)[p]I blame it on "the BAND WAGON" it's shatttered and smashed to bits from everyone and their Brother with a E-Caller.. I am returning to hand calls as every spot I know of has been saturated with E-calls and the Yotes just ain't buying that song any more... just like Elksniper says every Pred Call at my local Wally World is sold out as well along with tons of battery operated decoys that hit the shelves for the first time this season.... it's back to basics for me and even thats going to be tough as I might be a little rusty!! LOL..
Hunting is Life...everything else is

Hey Smitty , have you tried a pup distress after they start barking? Ive had pretty good success with it.

I've had good luck with it in the past, but I don't use it when they alarm bark, or can see my location. I figure that I'll go back in there in a month or so, hike in alittle further, use my mouth calls, and get 'em killed that way. I don't want to educate them any more than is needed.
