Idaho bear

LAST EDITED ON Jan-19-13 AT 03:20PM (MST)[p] lots of numbers of bears..need to thin them out..used to hunt there years ago, but the qty went down..had # but mostly smaller bears...they raised hell in the elk calving areas, almost wiped out the elk before the wolves Danny

I haven't heard recent numbers, but unit ten pre-reintroduction had 37 out of 54 collared calves killed before winter by bears. You add wolves to that and you don't have any elk left in a very short time.

We hunted the Frank Church wilderness a couple years ago, only way to get in is to fly, float or long ass horse ride. I believe they cut the tag prices because its costly to get in there.

We hunted it and didn't see any bears. I think we mis-timed it.

It's an incentive. The bear population is high and the IDFG wants everyone who hunts those units to carry a bear tag just in case they see one while deer and elk hunting. Most of those units are also two bear areas. Not many hunters will pay $180 dollars for a bear tag to have just in case, but many will if it is only $30.

So are those good areas to start doing resurch for spring spot and stock hunts? Dose that mean that there is good numbers?
