Headed out of town around 5 am for an all day hunt. I have been so busy working and spending most of my free time night hunting that I wanted to set some time aside to do what I love the most... Day Calling!!

I had a horrible morning . First few stands, I had some distant howlers but zero dogs coming to the call. Then I battled with the wind as well which made the whole morning frustrating.

But I kept at it since I had planned to call all day. At around 1 pm the action started getting better.

Stand 1 : 5 minute mark ... overlooking a wide wash, I spot a coyote charging in from my left. He runs right by the call and over a small hill. I swing the gun and spot him running up the next small hill about 150 yards away. he didn't look like he was going to stop so I take a running shot and knock him over.

Stand 2 : Nothing

Stand 3 : 6 minute mark ... spot a coyote coming in slowly. He must have picked up a scent he didn't like because at about 100 yards he froze and looked nervous. Settle the crosshairs on him and dead right there.

Stand 4 : Nothing

Stand 5 : 2 minutes ..... I see a coyote bouncing in towards the call. I was in some real thick brushy country so I lose him for a minute. He appears again just below the call. I swing the gun on him and he immediately sees the movement and bolts into the thick brush and never appears again.. darn!!

Stand 6 : Nothing

Stand 7 : 10 minute mark ..... see a coyote charging hard off a small hill about 500 yards away. He charges full speed to the call which is about 20 yards in front of me. Not having a shotgun ( my mistake ) I take a running shot coming directly at me. Hit him 5 feet from the call and rolled him up.

Stand 8 : nothing .... too dark..... head home.

All in all the afternoon action completely made up for the miserable morning stands. I think I will be making a few more trips to day call until the end of this month. Might try to bring the camera and do a little filming.

Here is also a picture of a night hunt from a couple weeks ago. With nights like these, its hard to justify only day hunting.

Clearly that "assault" weapon is doing its job with all those dead critters. :) Job well done. Wish you would teach me how to call!

thru thursdays taggin day we had 19. After the prices we got, I regret not hitting it harder. I had 7 cats split with my brother and we averaged $728 from those 7. And 4 of them were from earlier November and were not prime at all.
