So I drew the fall La Sal bear tag this year. I have never hunted bear before. This is a spot and stalk hunt only. All I'm asking for is some tips on hunting bears. I have a pretty good idea of where to start looking. I'm hoping to get out opening weekend which is 08/19. Or over Labor Day week. Any help is greatly appreciated.

welcome to the forum! I'm in the same boat as my first choice was La Sal fall bear and I got hit $83 on my CC. Maybe I'll see you out there! Wish I had some advice on bears but never hunted them before. Should be a riot spot and stalk.

I would look for food sources, especially left over berries. Hunt early and late, but in the fall those big ones are trying to pack on pounds so you can see them at any time. I read that they will feed up to 20 hours a day prior to hibernation. If baiting is legal, I would go that route.

How many points did it take you to draw the tag team backcountry? When do you plan on hunting?
Thanks for the info bullelk

Are you sure you have the spot and stalk? The spot and stalk hunt is in october only. If you drew the fall hunt and are only going to spot and stalk instead of the use of hounds, I would check into some bait stations. If you dont want to bait, I would stick close to the oak brush

Remember only archery bear tag holders are allowed to bait in Utah.
