The conditions were perfect a few inches of snow in the valley and 4-6" in the foothills teamed up with a great houndsman Jared Higgins of High Top Outfitters and some great dogs to make this a dream lion hunt! You have got to watch this female jump 60+' out of the tree!

I hope you enjoy and consider subscribing to my YouTube Channel!!

So?

They don't Leash their Dogs up when a Hunter Shoots the Lion?

The Dew I had for Breakfast wasn't Bad so I had one more for Dessert!:D

That could have be a couple dead dogs there. You boys got lucky! I agree with Bessy, tie up the dogs next time eh?

Here is the Houdsman's response:

FYI, I tie all my veteren dogs up when we shoot, I leave the pups untied so that they get to tangle with the cat. pups under a year old that get in a scuffle like that usually come out of it with a little respect for distance, and a genuine hatred for cats. none of those dogs got hurt and the cat was dead in seconds. like it or hate it, that's my way of making pups fire up.

I don't normally jump into most heated discussions on these forums but this one I need to. This houndsman neads to have some respect for his dogs or get the F### out of running. If you think that having a pup get ripped to $hit or worse yet dead is a good way to teach them, you need your head screwed on better. You are certainly putting a lot of faith in the shooter to think that the cat is going to die fast each and every time. With cats things can go to $hit fast. Tying up all dogs is the best way to make sure they all come home. How many pups do you loose every year to this kind of GONG SHOW mentality?

sweeet cat, and from the looks of it some good dog work

How to start an argument online:
1. Express an opinion
2. Wait

Your dogs, your property. Train them any way you see fit. Much Thanks for sharing the video and congrats on a great cat.

If you use a .22 they will die in the tree and fall out dead so you dont have to worry about your dogs getting tore up. Nice video and cat. Congrats.

You obviously haven't shot too many lions. Caliber has nothing to do with a poorly placed shot, and after 30 years of running hounds, I've seen way too many poorly placed shots. This houndman will change his mind after a couple of torn up dogs, the dogs deserve much better.

Ive seen plenty killed and shot with a .22 and they All have died just like I said. Ive seen others shot with big calibers and jump out of the tree and run hundreds of yards before they died. However you are right about poorly placed shots but thats just a given for any animal. Thank you though for your expert OPINION.

I hate to be throwing my opinion in on this, as i find these types of arguements are pointless on MM...But, as a hound hunter and hound enthusiast in general, I can not believe the idea of letting a young dog get torn up. I have never seen anyone not hold back the young dogs until the cat is definitely dead before letting them be the first to chew on it. A dead lion can still chomp on a dog, I have always shoved a stick in the mouth or something of that nature before letting dogs get to it. Guess my hounds have meant a lot more to me than a replaceable tool to catch a lion.
