I am going to be bear hunting on the Fillmore/Pahvant unit and was hoping someone can give some info on the hunting there. Are there many bears there to hunt? I know there is only one tag issued for it. But I am wanting to try a new place. Any help would be appricated, thanks.

I know its been a long time ago, but I grew up in Richfield, and never even heard of anyone seeing a bear in that area. There wasn't any elk to speak of either back then, and look at it now. Over on the Booby Hole, and Fish Lake area is another story, as is the Salina canyon area. I'm sure there are some there but there are a lot more cougars than bears. I had a couple students about get killed by one up above Joseph.

That was a long time ago, too, but boy did they come back to school with one heck of a story. The cougar kept charging at them, and they would yell and throw sticks and rocks at it. They kept slowly backing up. It was only a few yards from them the whole time. If they had not been together, I have no doubt, the cat would have killed. This thing kept after them for about a mile, until they finally made it back to their parent's cabin. They were a couple of scared students. You could tell they were telling the truth. They kept getting all white around the gills as they told me, if you know what I mean.

I hunt deer up above fillmore and I saw a bear up sand rock ridge last year. But that is the first bear I have seen in 10 years of hunting up there. Good luck.
