Mountina Lion Calling

I have heard stories of guys calling in Mountian Lions. I know it can be done....but is it such a longshot not really practical? I fiqure wait until the deer are concentrated and start calling. I know cats come in slow and the normal 20 minute yote set up ...you need to give it an hour

I would love to try and run them with dogs but between jobs and the money is just too much too much.....

Any thoughts...are appreciated..

I'm going to be doing that exact thing this coming March. We will have over the counter lion tags available. I killed a nice Tom a few years ago with dogs, just not my thing though. My plan is to find a fresh track, follow it, and call in opportune areas. I believe a guy can get a lion doing this. I'm gonna try like hell myself.

Cool...there is a thread on bowsite in the general forum "Cat Callng" that has one of the posts with a great link about it...lots of stories and how it came down. I think one of the challanges will not to shoot the coyotes you call in and wait....

I will be hunting in Colorado...

Jan Feb March seems like it would be best

But seriously....if your really want a cat all the yotes will coime in in 20 minutes or so...you shoot them and that is the end of any cat coming in....

Don't know how well this would work but I figured I would shoot it out there. A local trapper in town here in Northern NM was telling me that if I used a Bobcat distress call that it would call a lion in. Im not even sure what that would sound like but according to him it works.

I have called a few them in over the years while calling for bobcats (using rabbit distress). Focus on the south facing aspects with plenty of ledges and rocks. The one downside to that is the coyotes come from the lower brush country behind you. Also I've noticed the sound of a gun doesn't always scare em. Even with coyotes as long as the don't see or smell you the gunshot doesn't always spook em. Take a seat an hour gets really long. Good luck.

I have call them in during coyote hunting, Just make sure you backside is covered, Because you wouldn't hear them coming.
