I have spent a ton of time in alot of different spots to find some song dogs and have came up with nothin. wondering if anyone could put me in the direction for some yotes? I live in Southern utah county. any help would be great. I would like to take my boy out and see if we cant put one down.

Try yote sounds. Been working around here since love is on their walnut sized brain.

This time of year their focus shifts a little bit to pairing up and defending their territories. Saying that I usually stick with the same distress sounds but usually incorporate howls and kiyi's. For me they tend to take a little longer to respond this time of year as well so I'd sit a little longer. Most important thing though is to call where you know there are coyotes. Fresh tracks, scat, howling, etc. Keep at it and it'll come together. I guess that's why they call it hunting.

My limited experience also says that they are paired up and alot harder to call right now. Last couple of times i have been out has been pretty slim using rabbit distress sounds.

I have been thinking about switching to more yote sounds. Just don't know which ones to use.

tailchaser do you have any suggestions? What to start the set with? What to continue with? Would love to hear some suggestions.

Start out with a couple lone howls. And try switching up the type of distress sounds. I've been using higher pitched sounds with good success like gray fox distress, cottontail, woodpecker, etc. Then I'd incorporate some pup distress. That's usually my sequence almost year round except from August to November I usually don't howl at much. Maybe it's me but I've found they respond a little slower when I howl. I assume they are coming in cautiously as they know another coyote is in the area. That's probably why it works better this time of year as they are protecting their territory. Just don't over think it. Get out and hunt. This time of year is usually slower.
