Bear hunt Rifle

If you are hunting over bait, I prefer a 30/30 or a muzzleloader. If you are spot and stalk, and you may be shooting over 100 yards, I would sure use the above.

I have taken bear with 270, 30-06, 7MM & 300 short mag. All have worked great. All are spot and stalk and under 100 yards. The last three have been with the 300. I will continue to use the 300 because it is a light weight all weather gun and in May in Idaho it can really rain. I have shot two of the last three bears under 50 yards and they went no where and did not need a follow up shot. Don't believe you need that big, but it has not been to much either.

You ever shoot a bear out of a tree with that .300 WSM?.... ; )

Seriously, as Rmanwill said, any good deer/elk rifle will work as long as you make a good shot using a decent bullet. I've killed four bears, all spot & stalk. One with a .300 WSM, one with a .338 Federal, and two with a .308 (all Kimber Montana's). Shots ranged from 15 yards to 348 yards.
