i was planning to try to call bears in this august with my foxpro in the marques. is there a call that works best. I have the rabbit, cub, mule deer fawn and small elk distress calls. is there a better one that I don't have.
thanks

I've called black bears and they either sneak in very quiet and tentatively or they come in like they're trying to be the first one there. We sit back to back and have signals to let each other know what's going on. Calling blind hasn't worked well. It works best on bears you spot from a distance and then start using different calls to find one that piques his interest. Once he starts coming, stick with that call and give him time. It may take more than an hour. Some responded to a jackrabbit but most came into a fawn in distress. Cold calling has only worked a few times for us. A lot of times we have coyotes come racing in. Just hold still and watch them. They'll figure things out and get out of there. Be aware of cougars though. We had one rush us one day. I just couldn't believe how fast it was on us. We've had badgers and pine martins come in too. We've tried a cub bawl but it didn't seem to work. Hope that helps.
