I also posted this in the Archery forum but wanted your thoughts on this also. I have heard of and idea out there to seperate or extend the bear hunt into two hunts. One for the hound hunters and one for the archery hunters. This would give the hound huters freedom to hunt without worrying about archery hunters baits and give archery hunters the chance to hunt over baits without bears being run off by hounds. I don't by any means have all the details but I think this sounds like an excellent idea and something we may want to support if it gets proposed at the RAC meeting. Your thoughts???

If it means taking away hunting opportunities for houndsmen or any other hunting enthusiast then I am opposed. In Idaho where it is legal to run hounds off bait, we run the same bears off a bait day after day. My experience has been that a bear is going to keep coming back to the same food source day after day until they find another one.....and this is going to happen whether they are chased by hounds or not.

There are already areas in the state set aside strictly for the non hounds folks to enjoy, so let's not limit the opportunities of others.

I totally agree with you about limiting the opportunities of any hunting enthusiast. I would oppose that too. Do you feel that having an additional season that would allow a hunter to hunt over a bait site would limit any hunting enthusiast in any way? As far as the areas in the state set aside for non hounds hunters, are you talking about the spot and stock only areas?

I don't think this will be beneficial to either group. It will just shorten the season's for both houndsman, and bait hunters.
