I'm looking for some thoughts from some of you guys that are serious coyote hunters. I've hunted since I was a kid and I spend 50+ days a year in the field hunting sheds, birds, big game, varmints, etc. I've killed my fair share of coyotes using a mouth call or watching a rancher's bone pile or seeing them in a hay field, mostly just to pass the time, not really any serious hunting. Recently my boys have been wanting to go coyote hunting so I got a little Foxpro Spitfire. I've got alot of places with plenty of coyotes but I would like to raise the bar on my predator hunting and do it right rather than scare everything off. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

Well half the battle is having areas that actually have dogs on it.

Pretty hard to call in something that isn't even there.

Make sure your setup is prime, to your advantage. Have elevation, cover, sun at your back, but stay in the shade when possible.

Be quiet. Don't slam truck doors, whisper, walk quiet, etc.....

Don't sillouette on ridges, sneak in little ravines, next to cover etc.....

Don't get discouraged when they don't come in. You won't call dogs at every stand. Be patient on stand, give them 15-20 minutes. I don't call continuously, but I have a certain routine that I like to use, by the time I've gone through it, I know I've called for about 16-18 minutes. I always hang out for a couple extra minutes after the last series.

Don't miss. Coyotes are small targets, take one good shot.

Coyote hunting is addictive. But it can be extremely frustrating. Skin and stretch your dogs too, they are worth it. Remember the bounty if killed in Utah as well. Bounty and fur price = pretty good payday.
