Trouble calling coyotes this time of year????

For the third year in a row I have hit a dry spell in my coyote calling. I was wondering if anyone else sees this dead time as well or knows why its so slow right now. For me it seems I have trouble falling in coyotes from the end of November til the end of January then it picks back up. I appreciate any thoughts or advice. I know I'm getting into areas where others don't call as I mainly go I the mountains as opposed to the valley bottoms.

My experience is the big game hunts end and then everyone starts to hunt the coyotes. Before and during the hunts are always better for dogs, but not so much for the furs. However, the bounty makes it worth hunting them early.

I do my best this time. slows down after the holidays.

Make sure there are dogs in the areas you are hunting. Coyotes can and will move around quite a bit. some of my areas have dogs at certain times and then they seem to move on.

It might be as simple as that.

One mistake most guys make is calling too loud. If that's you, just tone it down. Coyotes can hear, smell and see better than any other animal out there, gotta respect their senses and hunt accordingly.

I usualy call for 20 minutes then move on but this year I have been calling longer. Last time out I had 4 coyotes come chargeing in at the 35 min mark. I killed 2 of them should of had 3. Then the time before that I had one come in at the 30 min mark so maybe try staying in one spot longer, The only reason I tried this was hopeing to call in a bobcat. Good Luck

Judgeing by the time frame you seem to be having trouble in, and the fact that you say you stay up high your biggest problem might be that the coyotes have moved down the mountain with the rest of the game. I could be wrong but you never know.

where are u located ?? I am in SW Idaho went out yesterday afternoon down in the high desert windy NO snow No deer 1st set up started off with screaming rabbit in my Fox Pro Spitfire 15 minutes later 2 yotes dead run coming from over a 1/2 mile away came in to 300 yards & held up switched to yote pup distress dumped them both at under 50 yards .. 2nd setup heavy sage brush set up on a canyon out of the wind not 7 minutes in big female dead run same call yote pup distress smoked her at about 60 yards 3rd 4th & 5th sets No kills 4th set I did have a dawg coming but my caller for some reason stopped the inbound dawg blew out no shot I agree with the other post that u maybe up too high most yotes will follow the deer herds down they don't like hunting in deep snow I am a firm believer in the pup calls I kill probably 75% of mine with this call good luck & keep trying

Last year I did a total of seven stands and out of those 7 stands I called in 4 dogs and only killed one. Missed the other and or no shots were available. All were on the jack rabbit distress and called in the 4 in the lower foot hills. From what I know, the coyotes will be where close to where the deer are at. Saw the craziest thing last year too. Saw 3 coyotes chasing a nice mule deer buck in January. There may have been more than 3 but I only saw three running after it through the sagebrush. Never thought rant they would go after a mature buck but I guess they do! Makes you realize how important coyote hunting is to the populations.
