congrats blue ticks are nice hounds let it be a puppy get it socialized and used to you do the basic commands sit stay come let it follow you around the house or yard. trap a coon and use the hide for a drag. drag it around the yard and let it follow it there is a lot of good info on biggame houndsmen.com post some pics, what are you planning on hunting?

Getting into the lion/hound sport is a long hard process that people cannot ever truly understand or appreciate until they've been through it and done it themselves. Rule #1 is don't get too attached to that pup. Not all pups make great lion hounds especially bluetick x bloodhound crosses. I know I sound like a douche but the only way to have good dogs is to be honest with yourself and have someone not sugar coat what it takes to get where you wanna be in this game. Try and find ya a good old lion hound around 8-10 years old that probably only has a season or two left in it. That old dog will run anywhere from $500-$1500 but will teach you and your new pup more then you could ever imagine. Plus you will be catchin game your first year into it. When you go to add more dogs to your pack I would recommend finding the most successful houndsman in the area you hunt and try to get a pup from him. That is a proven line that you know can get it done in your area. There is A LOT of junk out there and most houndsman are so full of BS you have to be able to filter through it. Watch what you read on the internet and go with as many houndsman as you can to try and learn the way you wanna hunt.
I'm no expert but have been through what your about to go through.

You're starting off on the wrong foot. Bloodhound/hound crosses have never been very successful. They've been tried many times. Training a pup without an older dog can be done but it takes dedication by the Houndsman. Most pups fail because of the guy behind the dog, not his pedigree. Go to biggamehoundsmen.com and start reading older posts and start asking your own questions. Way too much info to post here in one reply.

Fullcry is spot on, many people have tried bloodhound crosses and very few have ever made top hounds. If you are serious about a true life style change and want to be successful go hunt with some locals in your area and see what they are hunting. Also I alway recommend to anyone starting out to buy the book "Walk with Wick" and read it great book for the beginner. Tons of good info in the old posts on the Big Game Houndsman forum, most of the questions your probably wondering about have already been asked and responded to.
