Hey, Just looking for a little help. I'm going up bear hunting this weekend and was planning on going over in Units 67 and 66 by palisades. Is there a good bear population over there? Are most bears out by now? any canyons to check out?
I have hunted in Idaho for bear the last 2 years and have yet to see one or much sign. I hunted down by prairie in units 39 and 43. I'm hoping to find one this year so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have never hunted on that side of the highway, but I do bait in 76. I can tell you if it is anything like the unit I am in the bears are mostly nocturnal I think because of all the hound hunters. I have only ever seen 1 or 2 out in the open. its not really a spot and stalk kind of hunt. the palisades side might be a little different. maybe some body that has hunted that unit will have some better info than me. and yes I believe that all bears are out now looking for looking for something to eat. they have been hitting the baits pretty hard.

66 gets baited and hunted hard too. I killed a nice bear there 8-10 years ago doing spot and stalk. About 3-4 years ago I took my boy in there to do the same and try baiting. Never did see a bear. Ran into a lot of other guys doing the same. I think there were so many baits the bears just rotated through and never had to come out in the open.

Having said that though, you sure ain't gonna kill one sitting on your couch.
