Wasatch West Bear

I saw a ton of bears last year on the Wasatch west. I wasn?t a resident so I just did some recon work.

I see that this year it's not part of the ?objective? hunt units. Any ideas as to why? What do you think the draw odds would be this year to get it in the non-hound hunt?

Stu,
I assume you were asking about odds to draw the Summer Wasatch West bear hunt. Here is a link to the 2017 Bonus point draw odds:

https://wildlife.utah.gov/bear/pdf/17_bonus_points.pdf

Looks like it took at least 10 points to be in the bonus permit pool last year for that hunt.

The Wasatch Avintaquin/Currant Creek unit is still a Harvest Objective area from March 31 - June 1. There are definitely some bears in that area - have seen a few over the past 2 years scouting for deer.

I hear you. That just makes it an hour to glass on it instead of 20 minutes.

I keep seeing all these articles on how good the bear population is and how more opportunities are coming, yet they take this away.

Just because the quota wasn?t met doesn't mean the population is down.

I'd be cool with some quota no-bait, no dawg units so us shlubs can get after it.
