My son has a San Juan tag and we went down a week ago. We didn't stay long because it hadn't greened up much so we didn't see any bears. I'd be looking in any grassy areas, especially in the bottom of canyons where the bears are traveling. best of luck.

Colorado always has been the" best muley state". Look at the record book. They blow away every other state. But like everywhere else, mule deer quality and quantity is down. You will definitely have a better hunt in Colorado than a general Utah unit, including San Juan Abajo.

elkhunter is right about bull size marley. Utah doesn't hold the giant bulls of the past. I hunted the SJ on the early rifle two years ago and in a week of hunting, I only saw two 350 bulls and nothing bigger. Any of those units would be a fun hunt, but he may want to crank down his size...

Yes they can use range finders, but must do it on their own. No one calling their wind or range etc. It's a pretty telling video for those who think they just gotta buy a turret scope and a range finder and they are good to go at 1K.
