    Missouri River Breaks.

The gumbo of eastern MT is horrid. You will be able to very marginally get around better with a sxs over a 4x4 pickup. I've taken my sxs there & found it did slightly better than pickup but only slightly. They still tear up the roads which folks don't often consider

    Montana Rifle Co or Weatherby

Hello, I am looking at getting a new rifle. I am looking at 2 specific guns: Montana Rifle Company x2 & Weatherby Wilderness, in 25-06. I have narrowed it down to these 2 for several reasons. Neither of these are what I would call common guns. I was curious if anyone who has handled or fired...

Buying a utv sight unseen & shipping

Hi, I am looking to buy a used utv. It's online, I won't be able to see it before purchase. It's a 2013 polaris ranger 900 eps, any input on this unit? I'm new to the whole utv/atv thing. I have a buddy that buys them frequently online without ever physically seeing it. He looked at me like I'm...

    .270 for Elk

Killed a lot of elk with my 270. Has always had a Nikon 3-9 power on it. Taken elk at ranges from 100-425 yards. I liked the winchester fail safes, then they quit making them. I now use federal 130 gr trophy bonded tip. Great penetration, accuracy and bullet performance. Took my 5th elk with...

    Elk Success

LAST EDITED ON Jan-16-14 AT 07:52AM (MST)[p]Yup, was that or a Sasquatch : ). Only heard one a couple times, a unique sound that you never forget, makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

    Hunting Packs

Stone Glacier! Bought the Solo this fall. Most comfortable pack I've worn, I'm 6'4". Adjusts very easily, fits me just right. It has an integrated meat shelf, works very slick. I've tried mystery ranch( heavy & too short in the packs that I would use), eberlestock, badlands. Haven't used kifaru...

    Elk Success

On the pack out a wolf crossed my tracks, missed him by less than 20 minutes. While cutting him up I had a mtn lion scream at maybe 200 yds. It's a very wild spot, 20 minutes from the house, love living in MT!

    Elk Success

After a long and difficult bow season I finally connected on this guy yesterday. There were 2 other bulls this size, a couple raghorns and some cows. Got him with my 270 at 425 yards. I have never gotten a mature bull, I had no idea how much bigger they are than a cow or rag horn, I didn't...

    Good gps

Hi all, I'm looking at getting a new GPS. Mine is an older Magellan unit that has finally died. I'm looking for one I can upload satellite images to. I've looked at multiple garmin models, I was wondering what some of you are using(pros/cons), ease of use and such. Thanks much

    Bears

I know this recent shot of winter hasn't helped things, but anyone hear if the bears are starting to come out, in the Butte area? I've only heard of one or two so far. Hopefully, the warmer weather coming this weekend changes that.

    Question - Pryor Mtns

The reservation is an entirely separate deal, the have their own tags and such. Access is somewhat limited, if you have a 4 wheeler that would help immensely. Access if muddy would be fairly difficult. I am pretty sure that tags for both deer and elk are special draw for the Pryor's. You...

    Beartooth Pass

Unfortunately, there never is a whole lot a game up there. Some mountain goats, a few deer, a few elk, some bear. I used to go up there a ton and hike all over the place, never did see much game.

    Are they out?

Yup, they're out. Took my 6yr old son out today. After telling him all week sometimes you go days without seeing one, sometimes you see 5 in a day, ya never know I got to eat crow. Hadn't even really started hunting yet, driving along and there it was. Hopped out, got him out, the gun, got...
