In the unit now sitting on the side of a mountain glassing the flats below and I just got a decent cell signal. Arrived a few days ago to scout, I've seen a few bulls but haven't found the big one yet. Curiously I haven't seen any cows so far. Anyone else hunting the season starting tomorrow...

I'll tell you what my deer load is in my CVA Optima V2: 100gr BH209, 250gr Barnes T-EZ, Federal 209A primer. I really like the Barnes and Thor bullets, they are real accurate out of my rifle and I just recently tried several different bullets.

For which rifle?

I'm hunting a unit in NM I've never been in before for elk. Never hunted in NM prior actually, though I've been putting in for the last 5 years. I chose it, after researching it quite a bit, mainly because it's never rifle hunted and it's pretty rough country. That should increase the chances...

Judging in velvet is impossible to be accurate. I'll say he will be in the 330-350 range depending on mass.

Switched from NAP crossfires to G5 Montecs a few years ago and haven't had a reason to change since, really good broadhead. Never shot mechanicals, no need to introduce another potential failure point with all that can go wrong archery hunting.

Muzzleloader this year, first time using one for elk. Drew a NM unit 17 tag. Might do antelope in WY with a rifle also if I have time. Struck out on everything in Utah so no archery.
