We didn't see a single elk over 4th rifle either. Supposedly the unit was hammered 2nd season and several elk were taken, so between that and the warm weather it just wasn't our time. But my son got his first deer so it was still a great trip!

I have been watching the Cameron Peak fire closely (as I hunt 19), and it looks like the wind shift has helped it a bit the last couple of days, so just hoping some rain comes before those Westerly winds return in earnest.

Cabela's just reintroduced their Iron Ridge leather hunting boots with 400 grams of thinsulate ($100). I am still wearing my 12 year-old version of these, and LOVE the bob sole in Nevada, especially with the rocks you will inevitably have to traverse. The 400 grams can sometimes be hot on...

Thanks LoneWati! That is sort of the sense I get - that if you put in the effort it could work out. I am hoping to really build a foundation for my son to learn an area and hunt every year.

I drew the late tag after you guys and am quite stoked! This is probably my last hunt in NV for quite awhile, so a great way to go out! Any information you guys are willing to share after your hunts would be greatly appreciated!

You'll have to let me know how the 221M goes - I drew the 221L and am pumped! I have had an extremely lucky couple of years with NV draws and hunts, and hope to keep it going!

I agree, pretty nice buck. I turned in this tag this year, mostly because I drew an elk tag for the same dates, but maybe I lucked out in doing so. Now I am wondering if I even put in for this unit next year...
