I'd start by looking to see what 3rd and possible 4th season hunts took 13-14 points to draw last year.

Weekly draw, same as primary. Those with the most points gets the tag. This would significantly help with point creep in my opinion.

The archery elk tag I've been chasing jumped 2 points. So now instead of being 1point behind, I'm now 2 points behind. I'll probably just jump in for a 1st rifle tag with 4 points over the minimum required next year.

I'd guess at least some of those folks see the writing on the wall, and that OTC elk hunting will likely be a thing of the past at least for NR hunters soon. Best to build a few points while still hunting the OTC when that time arrives.

If those 35k are non-residents, they just contributed over $4 million dollars to the CPWD buying a small game license, habitat stamp, and cost to apply for a single species.

If I remember correctly, which is a big "if". I think the website crashed on the last day or so of app deadline so they extended the deadline.

I would definitely prefer to do 2 hunts in a 4 point unit than do 1 hunt with my current 10 points.

I burned 24 points 2 years ago, and saw nothing close to a 190 buck. I never put a tape on my buck, but I'm guessing maybe 150-160? (In my profile pic). This was 3rd season. Maybe if he goes with an outfitter or gets access to private land in the Eastern part of the state?

That's exactly what I was hoping to do. I have 8 elk points and my dad has 4. He's been a point behind the unit he's been trying for the past 2 years so I was hoping to burn my points so we could hunt together while he's still physically able.

I'm in agreement that it shouldn't be 100% youth preference. Maybe give 50% to youth as their 1st choice or something? I do agree seniors should get some preference as well. A youth has lots of hunts ahead of them, but how many do most 70 + year olds have? There are several returned tags for a...
