    X zone archery reports

There was a bull, but the herd was moving so I couldn't tell how big. My friend was in C2, just south of 89 and he saw a group of 4. They talked to a logger and he said there's a wolf den close by too.

    X zone archery reports

I'll post up. Hunted a NorCal X zone for the first time. We had a very slow Saturday. Only saw a handful of does and a bear. Tried a different area on Sunday and it paid off. I passed on a micro fork early. Kept drawing on it at 40, but it sensed no danger. Young and dumb... Kept going on...

    What tags did you get?

Non Res unit 7, early deer. My last NV deer tag was around the mid to late nineties, so I'm pretty excited. 4 months is a long wait but I was lucky and surprised to draw a decent archery tag in my home state, so that will help cut down on the wait time.

    Draw done

Dang, with zero points I drew A3 (X1). Was planning to rebuild points since I already drew a Nevada deer tag in unit 7. I guess this is a good problem to have. Stuart

    Area 7 Mule Deer advise

Finding a doe will be pretty easy and I wouldn't venture deep to find a doe. Snake Mountains in 75, drive slowly along the roads and you'll see deer. In addition to understanding how to butcher/breakdown a deer, my advice is to understand shot placement. Focus on the vitals, heart/lung area...

CA Big Game Preference Point Statistics

I wanted to share this resource for those who are applying for big hunts where preference points are required. If you're not sure if you have enough points to draw a tag, then you should find this information to be very useful. The data will give you the number of applicants, and give you an...

    Results!

Not surprised I didn't draw, as I saw it the other day for a brief moment, when I refreshed my phone. It disappeared right after I went to look up my pref points. It's all good, because Plan B, is to burn my points in CA for a decent archery hunt in a new zone that I've never been to before...

    The wait

Strange..... I checked a few minutes ago and swear it said in red, ?Not awarded?. Then I checked my points and they didn't show an increase, so I refreshed and tried again. Now it now says ?Entered? I hope this wasn?t an early indicator....

You're correct Brad! I'm not sure if I apply for CA points or burn them on an archery hunt. Either way, I'm looking forward to hunting. Stuart

    Apprentice Deer Max Points?

I believe PC is correct. My daughtet is 16 and has 4 pts going into this year's draw. Next year she'll be 17 and at max pts (for a junior). 12 yrs old = 0, 13=1, 14=2 15=3 16=4 17=5 18=Adult

X zone archery hunts for deer

I've hunted X7 quite a few times, starting back before they split the zone and my father had hunted it quite extensively too. Back then you could bow, then rifle hunt with the tag. Pops used to live in Truckee and was retired, so he had good knowledge and spent a lot of time in the woods...

Rambo, You may or may not be correct. I'm not familiar with those folks. But Google ?nepotism?. It runs rampant at my work and heck, even Trump does it too. Unfortunately it's life.

Draw result date? 5/25 or 6/8??

Historically, NV draw results have been released Friday afternoon, before the Memorial Day weekend. This year, that would be 5/25, which was always earlier than Nevada?s posted date to have draw results up. The new system has a draw results of 6/8. Does anyone know if it will get posted...

    draw results history

Here's my draw history... I took a screen shot before they changed systems. As a Non-Resident, I drew unit 14 twice and 194/196 once over a 4 year span. Back in the 90's, it was much easier to draw, especially for muzzy tags.

    Flying X Ranch

It's out of wheatland, SE part of the state. It looks more like a family getaway, horsebackriding, ATVs, hunting and fishing. Sounds like fun to me, but I'm m unsure of the hunting experience.

    Flying X Ranch

I'm a NR and got invited to hunt this ranch as a friend of a friend for deer. From what I've found online, it's a large partnership ranch with lots of activities, some of which include hunting. Does anyone have any experience with this property? Good, bad, etc... Thanks, Vizsla2

    Archery Flashback to 2014

In 2014, 3 of us drew archery tags for an unspecified CA X-zone. I remember being a little disappointed after a scouting trip, so going in, I realistically lowered my expectations. Remember, don't pass on the first day, what you'd shoot on the last day?... We'll, opening day, I just couldn't...

    NV Antelope question

Thanks for the kind words. We had a GREAT time! I hunted with a good high school buddy of mine and we connected about life, kids, etc. I just can't believe it was 30 years ago. Funny how so much has changed, and at the same time, so very little. We found an old, abandoned stone house in...

    NV Antelope question

back... In 2 days of scouting, saw around 100 animals and very few hunters. In fact, only 1 on opening day. California Antelope

BradA, Drawing a CA antelope tag w/o max points has crap odds. I drew in 2003 or 2004, but this was before the point system. Back then they had a 10yr waiting period, which applied to me, so the very first year of the point system, I wasn't even allowed to apply, since it was the tail end of...

    NV Antelope question

I was fortunate and drew a Non Res Antelope tag (Rifle) for units 131/145/163/164. I've hunted antelope once, about 25 years ago in CA, back when they had a 10 yr waiting period, but aside from that, I'm an antelope rookie. I haven't scouted yet, but plan to arrive several days before the...

LAST EDITED ON Apr-27-17 AT 02:22PM (MST)[p]I hunted it twice, both in the 90's during muzzy season. Knight just came out with in-line muzzy and I was amazed shooting ~4" groups, open sights at 100 yards. I hunted both Roberts Creek Mtn and the southern diamonds (west side) outside of Eureka...
