I'm jonesing.... But prepared for disappointment.

    Weaver K1

I think it is late 1950's. The finish is ok. There are ring marks from the Weaver rings. The glass is a little yellow but as expected from a scope this old, but clear enough to see. Adjustments work and it looks to track as it should, crosshairs are not centered in the field of view in this...

    Paramount ML

If that base could clamp to a Picatinny rail.... The front sight night have to be really high, but not removing the base when switching between the scope and irons would be cool.

    Paramount ML

One thing that sucks on the Paramount is that although it takes Remington 700 scope bases, the side of the receiver where the receiver sight goes has the bolt release.

    Best 1X scope

Looks like some have ended up on eBay for a substantial markup.

    Best 1X scope

They sell out immediately but have been in stock a few times in the last few weeks. Note that Vortex says limited distribution, not discontinued now. https://vortexoptics.com/vortex-crossfire-ii-1x24-muzzleloader-riflescope.html

    Best 1X scope

Vortex has brought back the 1X Crossfire. They have been in stock at Sportsman's Warehouse in the last few weeks and availability should get better.

Would sweating/soldering on the front ramp void the warranty? I would not trust epoxy like JB Weld, but it is a thought. There are also band type sights for shotguns and ARs on the market. Check out NECG. They make band ramp front sight bases in various barrel diameters and heights. They...

May 2nd 2024 Wildlife Board meeting

I read somewhere that bucks who grow the absolute biggest antlers often are the ones who are not spending bunches of energy on fighting and breeding. I'm not sure how true that is. Also, does carry 1/2 the genes and maybe it's the few of them with the big rack gene who put out the exceptional...

$150 NR tickets for violating Wyoming Wilderness rule (12 tickets in 10 years)

I was told that the forest service had an agreement with the state to enforce state laws like that. The ranger took my information and I received the ticket in the mail. It has been a long time and I no longer have the ticket. It was easier to just pay the ticket than fight it since it was just...

What's everybody in for now thats is done?

It really doesn't matter, they are all mostly one tag hunts, and you can't guess the future. I'm just hoping to cash in on my 28 deer points on a Henry buck tag and hope at some point they will offer a second any bison tag there. I will have a pretty good chance with 27 bison points going in if...

What's everybody in for now thats is done?

If it is supposed to be a 50:50 split between max points and everyone, why not do a coin flip before the draw for one tag hunts to see which way the one tag goes on one tag hunts? Or they could alternate years between the tag direction?

What's everybody in for now thats is done?

I switched from sheep to bison when I thought that 27 years ago. I wasn't lucky enough to draw anything else (15 across the board now) or the bison.

What's everybody in for now thats is done?

Allowing nonresidents to apply for all OIL species killed draw odds in the pool for all, especially for bison or goat. Most nonresidents would apply for sheep or moose if they had to pick one.

    X12 2024

Not that I would recommend burning points on D14, someone burned max 21 points on it last year. Splitting points and wanting a high country backpack pretty much leaves you with the hunts you have listed. If it's one draw and done, just do X12 if you can hook up with someone who seems like you...

$150 NR tickets for violating Wyoming Wilderness rule (12 tickets in 10 years)

I was ticked for me and my elk being in the wilderness at the kill site. It was close and before GPS devices. I honestly think the bull was outside the wilderness on the first shot. Like above, just a fine like a traffic ticket. Freak that a forest service ranger was there and wrote the ticket...

    CA mule deer 19 points

You were in a X5B draw pool with 18 points going in last year. You can't tell from the published statistics how many are with you, but it is a few years in so it can't be that big if the largest first year and next two pools have cleared. I would stick with it.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

Preference points are fine for hunts that roll over points pool in some reasonable period of time. Wyoming nonresident moose and sheep was in that status when you had to write a check for the whole amount and apply, before the cheap point. The field was flooded. Then the price of a point went...

What's everybody in for now thats is done?

Got to call BS on this. Most you could have on a second NR deer/elk or second OIL is 15 points. That's when they allowed nonresidents to apply for everything.

What's everybody in for now thats is done?

Thank you, elkassassin! I hope so. There are a few with more points and a few with the same as me, but all have been doing points only for years. I hope none jump in. I was one of the 4 with 27 points trying for the two max points tags last year.

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

The order of taking the preference vs random/bonus tags is important for hunts with few tags. The 75:25 split in WY is really almost all preference to nonresidents going for moose and sheep because they take the preference tags first and there are not enough tags to give one to random in most...

    Bonus Point odds are up

With loyalty and hunter ed points, 2 points is really zero for most applicants, especially since the online supplemental course. Everyone having 2 points to start hurts 1-2 pass draw odds for those with more points and helps draw odds for those who drew recently. The original intent of the...

TRW joint committee to take up preference to bonus point issue

Preference points systems are based on the thought that everyone waits their turn and gets a tag in some reasonable portion of their life. Just for argument, let's call that 50 years. A 14 year old kid starting out should be able to draw while young enough and healthy, let's call that 65. If...

Sheep and Goat 2024 draw statistics / recap are up on CPW website

I think I would rather have more chances for my points than just dividing one number by a slightly higher number.

Sheep and Goat 2024 draw statistics / recap are up on CPW website

I'm not sure if it is worth spending $100 on a nonresident point when they just divide the random number by (points + 1). Value added per point goes down the higher you go. Drawing a lucky low number is more important than dividing it by a slightly larger number. Dividing by 25 vs 24? Almost...

    CWD Jumping to Humans?

If CWD is in the brain, seems to me that the biggest risk of transmission to us would be handling and cleaning/capping the skull, disposal and cleaning up everything. There are many other possibilities, even type of CJD and how two friends could have got similar symptoms, one confirmed CJD...

Combining points is messed up. Making you pick one type deer tag to gain a point in each year would be ok.

Proposed Quotas for 2024 Big Game

They removed hunts, but they should have left the rows with hunts deleted or added in and had 0 in the appropriate column if trying to show differences between 23 approved and 24 recommended. The totals don't all match columns totals as in the document.
