    White muzzy rifles on classified

Thanks, Joel. Not planning on going anywhere in the next month or so, but need to "thin the herd" just in case. I trust all is well in Idaho Falls! SCS

Opinions on White 98 Elite Hunter

I suspect it is. I think the 22" stainless Whitetail would work well. It is what I carried in Idaho back before the cancer made itself known... The one I carried wore (wears...) a Lyman SMET and the original front ramped blade. Using my own cast 435-grain conicals, I was able to keep five...

Opinions on White 98 Elite Hunter

Gator, I have several I would consider letting go of. When you are ready, shoot me a PM and we can talk about it... they are almost all used, but none of them has been hurt.

Opinions on White 98 Elite Hunter

LAST EDITED ON Apr-11-16 AT 10:37AM (MST)[p]>Piece of crap. Barely function as >a muzzleloader. Would give >you $300 to help you >out! > >Shows nice, quality build, nice >rifle, shoot well, and typical >White quality. Listen to Doubless >for all things White That last sentence is...

Opinions on White 98 Elite Hunter

I have both the S91 and an Elite, and for the life of me I see no difference except for a second action screw and a (heavier) laminated stock. I shoot nothing but T7 in my Whites, and have never had a problem with ignition, but I use RWS 10.75 caps. They are hotter and fit tighter; I like...

    Whites going absolutely crazy!

    >I got to wonder why the man that started them "divorced" him self from the company and name? I guess I should have used your reason I don't like the design. To be honest the white is probably a good enough gun. They are way too over priced in my opinion for what they are. Instead of getting...

    Whites going absolutely crazy!

It is very simple: I won't own a Knight because I don't like the design, and I have Whites that I have learned, can make them cut holes at 100 with my own cast projectiles when I do my part, and have a safe full of them. I have only been playing with them for about 15 years so I am a late...

    Whites going absolutely crazy!

I figured you had never owned one, but you were quick to decide they weren't worth owning. I have to wonder why... As far as the nipple not being replaceable, the nipple and breach plug were one unit, very easily replaced. All you had to do (still do...) is order a new one... I can't...

    Whites going absolutely crazy!

Mallard, he sold it. I know because I bought the S91 Safari he had, and when he told me what he posted I went and looked. We talked a bit because I love the darned things, but with half a dozen of them and an Elite to boot, I just couldn't see parting with that much cash, NIB or not. But he...

    Relubbing pre lubed

just saw this very old post, but I pan lube my projectiles. I use a modified Emmert lube, and melt it, pour it over the bullets standing in a cake pan, and after it solidifies, I push the bullets out from the back. Works well...

    Whites going absolutely crazy!

Have you fellows been watching the Whites the last couple of weeks or so? I saw a NIB S91 in .504 on Gunbroker late last week with a buy it now price of $750, and three days later it is gone... Sheesh! There was an S91 in .410 posted a week or so ago as well, and it went for roughly the same...

    Why are we using .50s?

I did some more "noodling" about this topic and realized that the Game and Fish cops of the different states have no control over the amount of powder we put into the rifles. Therefore, the only thing they can do is make it legal for only the larger calibers. It has long ago been proven that a...

    Why are we using .50s?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-13-15 AT 05:24PM (MST)[p]Zeke nailed it... in almost all (if not all) of the Western states, it takes a .50 to be legal, to the best of my knowledge. I have a Super 91 in .410 as well as in .451, and I will tell you right now that no elk is going to walk away from any one of...

    Seized Breech Plug

LAST EDITED ON Aug-08-14 AT 01:25PM (MST)[p]Never got mad, and the LAST thing I did was lecture. Where did THAT come from? I started my last post by saying that our methods were different. That is all... I have no idea where you got the idea I was mad OR was lecturing. I simply stated what...

    Seized Breech Plug

Our methods are just different... your first post said to lightly oil the threads in your rifle. You do that and push a load out of the rifle, your threads are just as fouled as if you used grease. Period. I said I was all about the Teflon but not using the oil, as it would cook down and...
  17. D

    Seized Breech Plug

I am all for the Teflon, but I don't think I would use oil... oil will cook to carbon under the heat of the burning powder, and leave you with a carbon deposit. That will do nothing but serve to take up the space between the threads, and make the same mess as you have now. Grease is heavier...

    Seized Breech Plug

I think more than likely you didn't get the plug tight and got more blowback than normal. This plugged the threads and you ended up where you are. As far as damaging the rifle, very unlikely. The barrel is bigger in diameter and has more meat there; it would be very hard to damage the threads...

    Strange shot

I am wondering if somehow you got a different powder charge. It is not uncommon at all for pellets to act strange. I don't shoot them, for that very reason. They are very kind in the field as far as loading, but in my experience are harder to light and sometimes are just flat inconsistent...

    Strange shot

A lot of variables that you don't address: Which rifle are you using? Which primer? A #11, musket cap, or a 209? Powder or pellets? Which bullet are you shooting? Saboted or conical... Where is POI on the first shot? In other words, does the rifle require fouling to shoot well, or is it...

    No Excuses bullets?

I pour my own 600-grain conicals from a SAECO 50-caliber mould. They shoot very well out of my .504 Whites, but don't know how they would act in other rifles. It all has to do with bullet fit to barrel, as we all know... The problem with a 600 grain bullet is it is like throwing a brick...

White G Series .504 Whitetail info needed

Cowtag, I cast my own conicals for my Whites. I have several, and to a rifle they are all probably more accurate than I am. I am no longer able to hunt the mountains, but prior to my last trip out West, I prepared by practicing at 100 yards with peeps. Sitting cross-legged on the range and...

White G Series .504 Whitetail info needed

In a word, no. All of us that own Whites have our favorites, but my experience is that all of them are very accurate. Most guys like the Super 91s or the Whitetails, but any of them will shoot up a storm. The only one to really be aware of is the Lightning, because the stocks are birch and...

White G Series .504 Whitetail info needed

The 10.75s may be hard to find. I think Natchez Shooters Supply used to carry them, and so did Midsouth. But they will get pricey if you have to order them on line because you have to pay the hazmat fee. But buy once, cry once. They really are the best around, and the best costs more. I...

White G Series .504 Whitetail info needed

I am somewhat of a late-comer to the Whites; I started somewhere in late 2000, so there is a whole lot I don't know. What I do know is below, based on my own experiences and experimentation. Powder - what kind and how much per load? I shoot 2F Hodgdon Triple Seven and use 100 grains volume...

    Best group ever!

Yep, those Whites just tend to do that... I have about a dozen of them, and with the exception of the couple that are either NIB or I have chosen not to shoot, they all do that. I have yet to see one that won't challenge a centerfire in the hands of a guy that can shoot irons or peeps!

    New conical from Federal

What are the specs on the bullet, and when will it be available to the general public? Pretty impressive mushroom, but I have to wonder how many they shot and into what medium before they got one that was perfect enough for their advance promo...

    caps vs 209's

Resurrecting an old thread... My comments will be limited to Whites because that is all I have ever played with in the ML arena. What I will say is this: Doc White himself told me that the 209 primers were too violent for his rifles, and in his experience they tended to cause groups to open...

    White muzzy question

I have owned three Lightnings, and eventually sold them all as I have half a safe of Whites in the Whitetails, UltraMags and S91s. (I also have three of Doc's shotguns as well...) The Lightnings I had shot just as well as any of the others, but there is one caveat: the stocks are birch, and...

    white muzzies, after they sold?

Broken neck, I asked Doc White that exact question a couple of years ago. What I was told was that they couldn't compete with China. Doc told me, IIRC, that he had women that could assemble a rifle in 15 minutes, they were paid $14.00/hr labor, and the Chinese were being paid something on the...
