Not just walking, but hunting the ditch bank on both sides of the tracks. It's private property, but years ago it was never enforced.

I used to do the same thing. A friend and I purposely had study hall first period. We would skip that class and shoot a pheasant or two then head to school with the guns still in the gun rack. At lunch we would clean the birds. We used to walk the Rail Road tracks which would get you in trouble...

I think we should stick it to the NR hunters and make them pay a non-refundable hunting license similar to Nevada and Utah, but maybe closer to $200.00. That should help fund the GnF. Maybe even 90/5/5 would be nice to see too.

I have no desire to change SD. I think the residents should have as many tags as possible. They live and work there why not. The same with Wyoming, but people like you feel you're some how owed tags here, or should have a say. I guess if SD was such a top destination for big game hunting there...

How are those NR elk tags going in SD? I'm sure you're stomping your feet and advocating for at least one NR elk tag in SD. Apparently, it's easier to complain about Wyoming than it is to do work in your own state.

I think the residents should have first shot at the horns. I don't see many NR heading to Utah like the Utah folks head to Wyoming. If i was a shed hunter, I would gladly take Wyoming shed hunting over Utah any day. Now if Wyoming would just follow Utah and go 90/10 for deer, antelope, and elk.

I don't disagree with most of what you said, however, area 7 is not area 100. It's a huge unit with lots of private mixed in and thousands of elk. In my opinion the bulls would have places to wait out the season. If the GnF truly believe the numbers are way over objective a general season would...

Life's about choices. Don't apply for LQ units that have 500 tags. When I Iook at places to apply for, I take hunt quality into account.

Is there science behind this or just opinion? I've hunted a lot of general season elk areas, and not one of them were overrun with raghorns. I have hunted 7 (LQ) a few times and saw a ton of raghorns along with great bulls. Some general season units produce good bulls year in and year out.

That is exactly the issue now in 7. I remember when area 7 had about 600 bull tags. I believe there are around 1,800 bull tags now with a 1,000+ cow tags. All these tags and a season that runs 5 plus months, yet the elk numbers are increasing every year. If the GnF want more elk killed make it a...
