No more governors tags for AZ

Hunting overall has changed dramatically over the last 25 years. We could go on and on about it. There was a time when it was just about hunting with family, friends, sitting around a campfire and being outdoors.

    coming soon

This was my first time ever applying for one of these extra tags. I only bought a kaibab deer and antelope. Figured I would do my part and make a donation.

    General Contractors in Flagstaff Area?

I am currently in final stages of plans for a cabin build at Mormon lake. Should be submitting plans for septic permit in next week or two. I am looking for a reputable general contractor with references in the flagstaff/mormon lake area. If you know of anyone, please let me know or give them...

Arizona leading the way, auction tags to be history

I hear about hunters complaining the money raised from auction tags has not made a noticeable difference. I wonder how many states and the mule deer downward spiral is related to loss of habitat, human population growth, drought and the lack of controlling the predator populations? I know here...

No more governors tags for AZ

I'm just here to stir the pot a little as I am still not sure how I feel about what AZ is doing by getting rid of auction tags. In the case that you described above with your friend in Idaho, if that would happen here in AZ what do you think everyone would say? Do you think they would just...

No more governors tags for AZ

AZGFD is going to need to make up that auction money. No way they are going to slaughter the milk cow and get rid of point guard. I can see them raising application fees and point guard fees but never getting rid of it. Point guard should cost the same amount as a tag fee for that species if...

Your Favorite Method of Hunting? (Poll)

Archery hunts are far more enjoyable IMO.

No more governors tags for AZ

I have mixed thoughts on this and only time will tell if this is a good thing or not. In the meantime, I hope everyone that is happy about this opens up their wallet and makes a donation to their favorite hunting related 501c3.

Best Western Big Game State To Retire In???

I lived in NM twice. Once as a kid for a few years in the four corners area and once as an Adult in early 90's. Beautiful state but it's backwards in laws, politics and policies. It's just a weird place for some reason. Lots of corruption and Albq is a very violent city. Too bad because it...

You hunting Turkey's this year? (Poll)

Yes, AZ. After not drawing the last two years we get to go again. Great time to be in the woods.

Looks like I will be adding another Teaching Endorsement!!!

I took the HS class in Bloomfield NM when I was in 7th grade back in 1976. I wanted to hunt so badly but my dad was a horseman and not a hunter. I signed up on my own, rode my bike to the classes in the evening at Bloomfield HS and finished the class all on my own. This is one of the first...

    Kidney stones

I had kidney stones once. It hit me as I was driving to elk camp on a Sunday morning here in AZ. Spent the day in flagstaff hospital. Dr. told me they moved too far down already, and I am going to have to pass them myself, so I told him I want to go elk hunting, so I left. The next few days...

    Unit 33 coues deer

A friend had an October WT hunt years ago, not unit 33 but one of the other southern units. He has never applied for another early hunt since because of the snakes. This is a grown ass man who doesn't scare easily but he said never again. I usually do not begin hunting quail until cooler...

    6A Archery Bull Elk

I had a NM Valle Vidal Early October Muzzle Loader OIL tag in 2021. Twenty tags total for hunt and only one tag for a NR without a guide and I drew it. Probably the worst elk hunt I have ever been on other than a Winslow Limited draw tag. Maybe the most Beautiful country I have ever seen but...

    Elk Draw ?

If your license does in fact expire on Feb. 8th, 2024, I can confidently say you are good to go. But since this is azgfd I would not place a bet on it. Good Luck

    6A Archery Bull Elk

It's unlikely you will draw AZ with 8 NR points but 6a has its pros and cons. Lots of elk but lots of hunters. Nearly impossible to get away from hunters especially north of Stoneman lake Rd. I'd say 2/3 of hunters are north of road and the rest are south of it. Very popular unit for RV's...

Boat load of non res elk points

The last 3-4 years many NR's have come to the conclusion that they will never catch up to their dream hunt. so, they are lowering their sights to what they deem as a "lesser" hunt. This means you got guys who are applying for hunts, and they have 5-10 points more than what is necessary to...

    Unit 3A BS

I doubt many residents are paying these high fees to hunt these limited opportunity OTC hunts. AZ should not be offering any OTC opportunities to NR's period. We don't have the wildlife numbers but we do have an ever growing human population. Make all NR's draw tags and use their points to...

    Kaibab 12W Late Info

You could also take the azgf online hunter ethics course and get that that permanent bonus point. Just a suggestion. https://www.azgfd.com/education/hunter-education-2/hunter-education-classes/ethically-hunting-arizona/ Good luck to everyone that has a late hunt this year.

    6a turkey poacher!!

I wish we would stop the fall hunt all together or at the very least, make it a bearded only turkey hunt. Why the heck are we allowing the killing of the baby makers?

Opinions on this years 12a archery hunt

Everytime I go up there I try to do some varmint calling. On the early rifle hunt, head down into the low country for some dogs. From my experiences, very few deer hunters are down in that country on the early hunt.

Some parts of the state are getting a little, but this is turning out to be a dud for summer rains. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

States with points need a re-boot

I'm ok with the way things are in the west. I can either play by their rules or not play at all. My choice.

    Best mountain man/Wild West books

I second Empire of the Summer Moon. Everybody was afraid of the Comanches. White, brown or red, they were all afraid. I am in the middle of "The Arizona Rangers" by Bill O'Neil. Those guys were a whole different breed of men.

States with points need a re-boot

sorry but it is 80/20. This is from the AZGFD portal: https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/hunt-draw-and-licenses/big-game-draw/draw-process/

States with points need a re-boot

States with points should follow the 80/20 rule. 80% random draw and 20% to max point holders. I like AZ's format considering we have less animals than most western states but we have an ever growing human population. 7.6 million now and expected to grow to 8.5 by 2030.
